I'll probably find a better home for this thread later...
I want to do repeated castle-building (literal, like quick and easy models) with some sort of simple crafy supply. Something suitable for children. Legos don't quit seem to fit the bill. Is there something suitable that everyone but me knows about? Build, try things, disassemble and put away, repeat. Is there a craft / building product like this that can be used and reused? I guess basically a construction toy, but pretty granular.

What is a good way to do this. To me easy is more of a priority than quick.

Agree, something that everyone can participate it, not a rush job, but something that at least allows one to do it with low skill (imagining something that works for pretty little kids but is flexible).

A lot of pretty little kids have better eye-hand coordination than many of us old folks.

So I don't know based upon the description if this would be applicable...I've been using Wal-mart brand coffee cans as a base for castle towers. Spray paint them matte black or grey and use acrylic paint daubed on with a small square of sponge. Parapets can be cut from cardboard and hot glued. Openings can be painted or physically cut into them. I've had good results and I adapted suggestions from the TheDMGinfo videos on youtube for painting. simply small dabs of grey/white/black next to each other then dabbed onto sponge then the tower exterior. Gives it that stone look and feel.

For a western motif, you could do a lot if you could get your hands on a bunch of the real wood Lincoln Logs.

I've even made a few of the basic tiles and they turn out great, and relatively inexpensive too.

Do you have any pictures of those tiles? Soon as I get off my lazy butt and paint some I'll post 'em LOL. I've only gotten so far as make a few "in the raw" the cardboard hot glued to make the basics. So many hobbies and so little time

Those that are bored must have an extremely shallow existence, a mere imitation of a life. A dozen lifetimes is not enough to pursue even one hobby, let alone anything else.

The closest I have come is when I have to do something painful but contentless (like a meeting) and it injures me so badly that I cannot think but have to maintain the appearance of engagement. Even there it has happened only a couple times.

Some of you are way more crafty than I am, I like stuff like this (as long as someone else does it).
Boredom is a foreign concept that I don't understand. Life is way too short and my interests are way too many for boredom to be a part of it.

Over the years I had accumulated a lot of buildings and the like. I used to go to the dumpsters of retail stores and search for Styrofoam. The packing materials of appliances is a great resource to have at the table, My wife liked to tell people That I had a closet full of this. Later I acquired some really cool modular hills. They were made for Battletech but it was fun being able to make stuff. I also used a model train grass mat for quite so time. I also painted some renaissance buildings.. Since Mysantia had a lot of canals. I took a table and covered it in blue saran wrap for water.
Edit+ I also discovered cheap houses that were the right size in craft stores, they were super cheap.

I'm new to painting and scenery. I've made a lot of progress on painting and I've discovered that it is very relaxing for me. Something that I started doing recently is looking for cheaper alternatives on scenery. I had to buy a new microwave and I kept the inserts that came in the box because I thought with a little paint and some putty that I could make some sort of building out of them. Now I have a growing stack of these things from friends and relatives so I can start experimenting on them.
