Let's see if we can come up with some examples of this: a rule or game feature that (as far as you can tell has a specific reflection or source in fiction. Halflings good at throwing things: Sam throws the apple at Bill Ferny in LOTR as the Hobbits leave Bree with Strider. Also Tolkien's note in the Foreword generalizing this idea. How about this? Magic: Vancian versus psi-based magic. In T&T the Wizard does not need to remember spells, he casts whatever spell he wishes and has the power to cast. No "fire & forget" magicks, and the Wizard can also exceed his daily casting ability at the risk of damage to himself. If I recall right, Merlin does this in the film Excalibur when he grants Uther's desire to transform his own likeness for a night. Then he complains later that it put him our of comission for a while. However, Excalibur post-dates Tunnels and Trolls. So that's not a great example. So of course some things are based on tropes that have many instantiations. But can we think of any where a specific source seems likely?
