(Eris -- I sent you a bunch by email, but I realize it's easier just to go straight Navy, by the book. So here we go, an engineer.)

Casca Vhar. UPP: 87978C   Age 38.

Navy Captain (ret.) (5 terms). Ship’s Boat 2, Vacc 2, Eng 2, Cutlass 2.

TAS (x3), Cutlass. Pension: 4k/year.

Notes: Initial stats. Aging after 5 terms. Skills: include +2 SOC to reflect going up in rank to Captain. Mustering out here and here (+1 taken for rank but not extra rolls; all rolls on benefits; didn't get what I was hoping for, but ended up with 3 memberships to TAS! Maybe each is under a different name, but tied to his biometrics?). 

Question: does Vhar get the starting skill (Cutlass 1) in addition to the skills rolled? If so, then I'll shift things around, and add another +1 SOC.

Vhar was a promising naval officer, who quickly secured a cushy position ferrying royals in-system. The Sector's Duchess, widowed in her 40s and with too much time, took Vhar as a personal pinnace pilot, and then as her clandestine lover. Vhar accepted the promotions and privileges that came with that honour, and indeed it was looking like she might want to take him as her consort. Vhar hesitated, and put in his retirement papers, and is now lying low, hoping to avoid the Duchess's notice and the obligations that come with the titles he has accepted from her. She has no legal hold on him, of course, but he knows her passion has not diminished.

Yeah, Vhar should be an interesting character to play. Yes, you get Cutlass-1 as a starting skill. Soc D would make you a Marquis and that means Marquis Vhar would have to have a fiefdom somewhere.

Hum, let's say that the Margaret the Duchess of Granthum granted you a fief next to one of her properties on some planet back in the Romulan Empire (that's the local "Imperium Clone"). This fief should bring Vhar 10,000 cr a year in income, but the last place he can be seen is that fief and the last thing he can afford to do is have that income traced to his location as Margaret would surely send her agents to bring him back to her. So, he's run for unexplored space and gotten stranded on ShiraLea where he joins up with The Clear Sails. 

Now for the 3 TAS memberships. Let's say the Marquis Casca Vhar has one which he better not use now. He has a  second in an an alias! Getting one with an alias is very much against the rules and it was very expensive to obtain (it cost him both the other 2 TAS memberships you rolled), but it is one he can use without Margaret's agents tracing him.

One more thing, having a high SOC has a knock on effect in that it can be used to help with Bribery attempts, Admin tasks, and finding goods, determining price and selling goods in Trading. Of course, if Vhar *uses* his status as a Marquis he runs the risk of it getting back to Margaret's agents, so he might want to keep it hidden.
