This thread is for anybody to post on, add to, spin, interpret, alter ideas...
The basic idea here is that I like the woods.
Especially the part where you're within an hour's walk of home. You're not hopelessly deep in the woods, but you're certainly not in your own world.
That boundary area is attractive to me.
That's also the area where the Wakeful are most active.
The Wakeful are not to be found deep in the woods or outside in the world of Men. Their place is on the boundary, in the areas that Men are likely to enter for a day. And their eyes are on you. No one whose eyes are untouched can see the Wakeful, but they can see you. They see everything and see through everything. They are utterly selfless and loyal to the interests of the woods.
But you don't know what the interests of the woods are. So you always watch out for the Wakeful.
There's a boundary of the boundary, a high-sun but still wild area with raspberries and other morsels. The Wakeful are there, too, but if you keep to the berry bushes, they won't reach out for you.

I came back to this today and I remembered how much time I spent in the woods as a child and how spooky this is to read. You could have told me stories when I was a kid that would have made me hesitant to go in the woods and might have given me nightmares. This is so good!

I hope we can do a lot of that this year.
