The have left three of their own lying on the tarmac. Aarav has decided whose side he's on. No one should leave their injured comrades behind. . . .

From the ground Vhar sees that the large man is shouting at him. He is having trouble hearing, but he thinks he is shouting something like, "Don't hurt her!"Vhar stares at the huge man on the ground beside him, and echoes, "Don't hurt her!". He hadn't seen the gunshot wound, and now bullets are flying overhead. He turns to the woman, looking for signs of consciousness. "Can you hear me? Ma'am? I want to take you to a medic." To the big man again. "She needs medical attention, can't you see? Go abduct someone else."
Casca Vhar's hands are now applying pressure to stop any emergency bleeding, the same technique he's used so many times before: put a finger, or a hand, or a fist in or on the wound until someoone who knows something comes and takes charge.

Suddenly, there is a loud Whump BANG! and the area around the ATV and the brawling group seems to explode in a silver cloud! Peng pumps his fist in the air and cries: "Yes, sir! Now we're cookin' with gas!"OOC: Okay, first turn of combat, everyone posted except raikenclw (I'll put in something for him to have done, but he can retcon it if he wants to). [OOC: You did pretty good. Just going to edit Peng's internal thought . . . ]Peng, knowing he can enter the ship through the hatch under his gun's turret, runs forward with the Aslan as far as the Maintenance hatch near the nose of the ship. He has the access codes for this hatch and no one is going to lock him out. Besides . . . [Internal Thought] If I can get in my seat 'fore those a**holes make it to their ship, I no longer need to to miss them. If the locals want to bring murder charges, I'll say I was aiming at the ship but missed. So sorry. My bad.[/Internal Thought] ***************************************************** [OOC: To be clear - Peng intends to put a laser cannon bolt [delivering 100 points of personal-scale damage - at least in the CT rules I remember] directly into the middle of the fleeing group of pirates. In fact - if Peng's turret has multiple cannon (I frankly can't remember and also can't find the ship stats post) - he will fire a bolt from every barrel . . . just to be certain of maximum damage. Having any of the pirates survive to dispute possession of their ship would be a definite inconvenience.
If Peng can't fire before the pirates reach their vessel, he intends to precisely fire A cannon bolt in such a way as to disable the ship but inflict the least amount of serious damage. I (the player) can only speculate as to what this might involve. For example, if the pirate's bridge is in line of sight from Peng's turret, that would make a very good target; while the ship could be flown from engineering (as most can), that would be awkward and likely not something often practiced. If the target is a tail-lander, blowing away a landing strut would tip it onto it's side, likewise making routine liftoff difficult if not impossible. If the target's ramp is still down - from unloading that ATV earlier - blowing that ramp would prevent the ship from being sealed, which might in turn prevent liftoff due to safety protocols.]

Takheal declines to shoot at the retreating enemies, considering it a waste of ammunition to try.
"I think they have had enough," Tokheletoi observes. "I see that Blackjack is still down, though."
"Stay here, Administrator," Takheal says. "I will attempt to help Blackjack." With her covering, the Aslan warrior runs for the downed Blackjack and the person trying to help him.

Cyril is out of ammo, which is a good thing for Casca.
On comm: Doc, we've got wounded. Can you get out here?
Cyril's last com was to the slavers. He heard Doc before, but he might not be transmitting on a ship's channel. He hasn't thought to check. It's possible that the party can't hear him, but slavers can.
Cyril thinks Casca is a slaver. He drops his shotgun and heads for Casca at a dead run, intending to reason with him as forcefully as necessary.

OOC: raikenclw, it's not going to be quite as easy to get that shot off as you hope, but you might still get a chance!
Okay, here is the second round...
"I think they have had enough," Tokheletoi observes. "I see that Blackjack is still down, though."
"Stay here, Administrator," Takheal says. "I will attempt to help Blackjack." With her covering, the Aslan warrior runs for the downed Blackjack and the person trying to help him.
On comm: "Doc, we've got wounded. Can you get out here?" says Cyril, then immediately Charlie adds, "Raven is hit! I'm coming in with her, Doc! Need medical assistance!"
On the bridge, Doctor Vargas stops trying to help reload the sandcaster and says to the Vargr who still hasn't introduced himself, "I'm grabbing my bag and going to help. Don't screw up things, up here!"
-----
Cyril thinks Casca is a slaver. He drops his shotgun and heads for Casca at a dead run, intending to reason with him as forcefully as necessary.
Charlie, Cyril and Takheal arrive at the huddle of Vhar, Blackjack, Madam Cho, and Raven within an instant of each other. Vhar has moved to trying to stop the bleeding from Madam Cho while he and Blackjack are shouting at each other. If Vhar notices he now has a large lion-like creature and a pair of angry looking humans standing over him pointing firearms at him.
Blackjack says, "Don't kill him. I don't think he's a slaver, just confused."
Vhar's hearing comes back enough so he can hear this. From the way these folks are acting it appears to him that the two women were part of this ship's crew and they weren't kidnapping them, they were rescuing them from that other group.
-----
On the bridge, Peng opens the hatch and boosts himself up. His laser is not in a position to hit the Slaver's ship, but the other turret is. He'll have to take over it's controls, or run across the bridge to the other turret to control it from there.
Getting the canister in the barrel, Ekhunoz, slams it shut and aiming at the Slaver's ship fires it off. The canister flies out of the barrel with a resounding THUMP!
Peng hears another loud thump! That was another sand canister being fired from the other turret! Again, he can try to take over the other turret from here, or run across the bridge to Gil's turret
----- Out on the tarmac, Aarav, is surprised to find there is no security lockout engaged. He is able to start the engine just by pushing the Start button. He lifts it...air/rafts make a loud whining sound when in operation, so he's not going to sneak up on anyone...and the Security Detail standing in front of him whirl around.
"What are you doing?" asks one guard and another adds, "Who are you?"
Lifting the raft a couple of meters, Aarav begins to accelerate toward the flipped ATV.
-----
At this moment, the sand canister whacks into the Slaver's ship!
Aarav sees it from the air/raft. Tokheletoi ,Cyril, Takheal, Charile, and Vhar see it from the tarmac. From the now open cargo hatch several of the Delgado passengers see it. Dr Vargas hears it as he runs down the corridor heading for the tarmac. On the Bridge, Ekhunoz sees it. Peng hears it from the wrong turret!
The canister hits the Slaver's ship near the front where the bridge and its two turrets are located. Amidships the group of pirates scramble aboard just as their ship takes the hit. Even before the cloud of sand dissipates you all hear the Pirate ship's engines fire up and it begin to lift! It doesn't appear the sand penetrated the skin, but it has scrubbed a large area on one side of the ship...probably taking out sensors and if you're lucky taking out some of its jump grid, too!

Too late now to crash this thing into those fleeing men before they reached their ship. . . .

"May I be of assistance?" he asks. Looking back toward where's he come from he adds, "But please be quick about it. I've just stolen this air/raft from the starport security personnel who seemed to have no interest in intervening in the altercation with your foes!"

"We are taking the wounded aboard our ship," the Aslan replies. "Who are you?" Aarav resists the urge to gawk at the alien.
"Gazi," he says. "Aarav Gazi. Just a bystander who saw you trying to rescue your wounded while those other folks . . ."--he gestures toward the men on the ground near the ATV--". . . left theirs behind."
"If it would be helpful to put your wounded in the air/raft, I can move them directly into that open cargo bay." He glances up at the other ship. "Won't be long before your opponents reach their own turrets."

[OOC: Assuming the referee doesn't have other plans, Aarav will begin to assist in loading the wounded and whichever care-givers can fit into the air/raft and then move quickly to take it into the cargo hold.]
He points at the man who ran toward the group, who is now trying to staunch the bleeding from the wounded woman while arguing with the other man. "He's also a friendly bystander," he says. "He came from over there where I took the air/raft." He nods toward where the security personnel and other bystanders are watching.

Ekhunoz looks to see if he can power and move the laser to prep to fire. If he is unable to do that or someone comes to take over he will start the pre-flight using his small boat skill.

"I'm no slaver!" insists Casca. He turns to the arriving trio of Charlie, Cyril and Takheal. "You know this man?" His hand covers the wound in Madame Cho's torso, and he hesitates to remove it. "Do you know these people?" he yells at the unconscious woman. "She needs medical treatment right away. Let me help."
Then, as they begin to move the body, he apologizes to the tall man, Blackjack. "I'm sorry -- it looked like you were abducting her."

Charlie, who was busy carrying Raven to the doc, gave the man a fast, hard look. "He ran into a gunfight to attack Blackjack, who wasn't armed. Who was being shot at. Now he's yelling at an unconscious woman demanding she absolve him?"
"I don't know who he is but I have my doubts about his common sense, at the very least. I think we should show him the hatch and take care of our wounded."OOC: Sorry for Charlie's hard nose. I promise he's actually an easy going sort, but Casca made what he'd call some poor life choices and will have to do more than yell at unconscious and shot people to change Charlie's mind. Casca actively attacked one of Charlie's shipmates and he takes that real personal. That said, I fully expect you'll manage it. It just might not be easy or quick. Remember, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

OOC: @terry: Yes, Casca tackled your crewmate, who had picked up a woman and bolted, at a time when terror had been unleashed and everyone was taking care of themselves. OOC: This was perhaps the most difficult challenge facing Aarav: from the perspective of a bystander just happening upon the confrontation, it seemed like there were multiple "sides" (including the starport security personnel just standing there watching).
(Not complaining--this was some excellent narrative ambiguity on the ref's part! Reminded me of this old Starbase scenario.)

Imagine you witness a car crash, and at that moment a bystander picks up someone also there and starts running away. I would be surprised if your instinct was to think he's helping her. Mine wouldn't, hence the action. Sorry you think that's a poor life choice. OOC: I’m a roleplayer. Charlie the character thinks your character made a poor life choice. I’m just giving him some lead on it. Just playing him seeing the situation they way he does, like you did. It’ll all get sorted out.

Peng get's into his own turret . . .
[Internal Thought]THAT sounds like a canister hitting the A**hole's ship. So they've made it aboard. A can hittin' a ship won't do much, though. < sigh > Guess I'm gonna have to shoot 'er in earnest.[/Internal Thought]
. . . and brings it online, as the growling rumble of the nearby ship liftoff thrums through the hull around him.
As the cannon power cycles up, Peng straps in and keys the Turret-To-Turret comm circuit to life, calmly drawling into his mike: "Peng to whoever's slingin' sand. Can you hold up? We might need those cans in a bit."
As he speaks, Peng swings his turret up and around by instinct alone, his targeting screen still struggling to come fully online.
[Internal Thought]She should come into my arc of fire right about . . . THERE.[/Internal Thought]
************************************************
[OOC: As the pirate ship lifts off, it should fairly quickly come into Peng's view. At least, it should if it performs a standard vertical takeoff. If it instead clings to the deck, it might not. But if it does that, it's going to really irritate the locals - e.g. by violating safety regulations at least, probably breaking a few laws and maybe even causing actual damage - so they might decide to bring it under fire. Peng hopes they miss, of course. If he can't take it intact, Peng definitely wants to be in on the kill.]

Ekhunoz hears the comm come on and a voice say, "Peng to whoever's slingin' sand. Can you hold up? We might need those cans in a bit."The targeting screen comes up! The other ship is right on top of you, and you think you can't miss at this range! You can't tell if you hit, though, as the other ship swings out of sight at the very instant of your fire! Peng doesn't see any more and there is no corresponding sounds of a crash, so the Pirate ship is still flying...he thinks... Ekhunoz, otoh, sees exactly what happened. The pirate ship took a hit and then twisted to starboard and is flying near the deck, but quickly rising toward the sky. Out on the tarmac, Cyril sees everyone heading for Clear Sails, and fears he might be left behind if they take off. Everyone on the tarmac hears the other ship starting to lift and then there is a tremendous BOOM!!!Clear Sails has fired one of its laser cannon! A gale of wind, dust and debris sweep over them and the air/raft actually bucks making it hard to keep if from flipping! Everyone gets aboard Clear Sails...Cyril is the last aboard and he is feeling very sand blasted! Cho and Raven are already on their way to Sick Bay with Blackjack and Charlie carrying them. The two Aslan, Cyril and several of the Delgado Trading passengers are still in the cargo hold surrounding Casca and Aarav. One of the passengers wearing a Delgado jumpsuit says, "What the hell is going on and who are these two?" The current crew recognize the Delgado speaker as Sir Baltus. He is going to be leading the Delgado trade mission if Madam Cho leaves...or dies. Quickly looking around Casca and Aarav see the cargo hole is filled to the gills with large shipping containers...the air/raft barely fits! But more importantly it is also filled with very angry looking men and women...and two large aliens. Everyone, is looking at them and there is more than one firearm pointed right at them and it doesn't look like it would take much to set these people off! Blackjack and Charlie get to Sickbay with Dr. Vargas and turn over the two women to him... It occurs to everyone that there is no one on the bridge. Well maybe Gil and Peng as they are missing from the group...and the stowaway, of course.
