Anyone here who runs: you do XP as treasure in some form, right?
Does anyone plan treasure to be lower but advancement about the same, finding other ways to add to the XP total?

I am ll over the place on XP. Mostly I do the lazy thing of just give a mass 50-75 Eps per game or so. Overtheyears Ive given 5 xp for taking 1 HP of damage(this was a huge hit with my group)

I tried this, but didn't really care for it. I keep 3 forms of XP: Group, Class, and Individual. I stick to the 2nd Edition AD&D method of XP, except that I ignore that rule which says that objective XP shouldn't be higher that the combined Group points. Completing objectives is the largest source of XP in my games. I also grant at least 100xp per NPC that you personally save. We only get to game once a month, back when we could game every day I could be a bit more stingy with XP, but even with this system it can take a whole year of gaming to gain a level. The XP for Treasure forced me to hand out more gold and I prefer to have a tight leash on that stuff.

It is in the 2e DMG. I've ran that system since 93, I like a lot about it. I always gave 500 xps for writing up a backstory, but the last few campaigns we've been starting at the beginning. Some players like doing that stuff, but most of mine don't.

I give XP for Treasure and none for killing things. I also give bonus XP for wit and ingenuity and the like. Amusing the ref, also earns XP.

Another thing I tried was to have a vote at the end of the session for MVP, w ep also to the runner up, prob did this for several years I used to play a video game called Fire Emblem, and one of them, "Pool of Radiance" gave you bonus XP to a place where you wanted it. You could use it to boost a powerful character or give it to weaker characters who had a hard time gaining it themselves. It was a fun mechanic that really helped your party out.
