Did you know there was Stargate prequel? I think this film is cut together from the abortive attempt at a Stargate prequel series behind a paywall. If you have Amazon Prime you can stream it right now. I liked it, but what I'd really like to see is the other two films envisioned when the original came out. Anyway, here is the IMDb page for Stargate Origins: Catherine (2018). This would be a great inspiration for including gates in your home campaign.

Did not know about this, a series (of movies) would have been great. Not able to watch it at this time, but am interested. I do have gates (portals) in my home campaign and have had for a long time. I have used them since about 1976 and I love them a lot. Stargate was a run movie and tv series, although there was much I would have changed.

There was an idea of a trilogy way back when Stargate came out. Then there was talk of shooting them, or perhaps reshooting the original with new actors then continuing onward with the next two chapters. It still pops up as "well, maybe this will happen" from time to time but obviously nothing concrete yet. The would-be producers, who were attached to the original Spader/Russell outing, did say the story would have gone in a different direction than the (excellent IMO) SG-1 series. Supposedly a reasonably fleshed out treatment of the sequels exists. (shrug) Like EGG's script for his vision of a D&D film? It doesn't do us any good if we don't get the movies (or at least a look at the outlines).

I had 2 types of gates in my old Mysantia World, Portals were gates that were incredibly long and dimension sometimes,They drained magic items for power. Gates were gates that were safe to use but you would have to physically walk about for a day to get to your destination. Love Stargate , I'll have to check out your link.

I have seen some fiction, not sure now which fiction, where traveling through gates involves a lot of walking.

I have seen some fiction, not sure now which fiction, where traveling through gates involves a lot of walking. While it may not be the one of which you are thinking, Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series had such a device in its books. The ”Ways” IIRC. Traveling the Ways was dangerous, It was easy to get lost in there and a variety of rather fearsome creatures lurked within the otherspace. He ll, just finding the entrance to The Ways was difficult.

Here is more information about the Ways (not "The Ways" as I said earlier) if you wish to know more or perhaps refresh your memory.
