Has anyone heard about this? Wow, don't think I have ever seen the phrase "straight white male' repeated so many times. she is alienating the people she is trying to reach. I want to go to Garycon just to piss her off. |

I haven't heard anything about this boycott and re the quote above I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. Since the taxonomical genus Pan consists of two extant species: the common chimpanzee and the bonobo, maybe that means she is into sex with chimpanzees and bonobos. The genderqueer/fluid I am guessing means she is into both male and female chimpanzees and bonobos. Just guessing, since they did not teach this in the pseudo-science classes I never took. People who think the most important information they can give you is their sexual orientation are shallow and rude in my book. I am guessing 99.99% of us don't care and don't want to know since that falls under TMI. You're gay(or one of the other 31 flavors of the month), that is your business and not mine, I don't care what you do or who you do it with as long as it does not involve children, rape, animals or dead bodies (all of those involve locking you up and melting the key down). But the idea that I want you to tell me about it is extreme narcissism and you should get help with that. So stop telling us about it, no one cares one way or the other so shut up already! If I want to know about your sex life ( NO I really don't want to know) I would ask you ( will never happen). |

She is not trying to reach us, she is trying to say that because of what other people are doing we are bad people too and she didn't say straight white male, she throws in the pejorative "cisgender". I haven't been to a Con, but if I were to go, I would not stand by and do nothing, I would take action. As far as special pronouns are concerned, if he or she is not good enough, I will use "unknown possibly sentient being". I need to make up a word that means that phrase and promote it. |

I don't know why people have to shoehorn themselves into all of these different stereotypes. Personally, I doubt that those ACTUALLY involved in this matter really care one way or the other, it is just the trolls who profit off of this crazy agenda for attention and unearned fame that are pushing it. |

At the end of the day, gaming is one of my escapes from the real world. I get enough of the 'I'm a bad person because I do no believe/agree with/do X' mentality in day to day life. The only time I take issue with any of it is when it bleeds into one of my ways to escape it. WOTC, Paizo and others have went from making games to political statements and that has cost them most, if not all, of my business. That these types will now go after conventions is a huge problem. But one with few answers as those who do not want this bleed over are instantly attacked and slandarized as soon as they voice their objection.
I'm afraid as more and more people like this are 'given their voice' and bring in Reddit and Tumblr like thinking in the hobby (Which is theoretical drivel based on feeling and opinion) and allowed to shape things the hobby will be lost. As much as I don't want to start an anti-WOTC rant; it is with WOTC that this stuff started and they continue to perpetuate the victim culture in their corporate culture and D&D. It is something that will continue to be a problem as long as WOTC has D&D.
As much as I would like to say to ignore them and they will go away, it won't be that easy. If you follow D&D on social media or even in general 'geek press' you can see the whole of Geekdom going this way. They hobby is becoming more about Social Justice than Swords and Sorcery.

There used to be a saying that D&D is too important to be left to Gary Gygax. Sure Gary's been gone for a while, but the statement still stands. Now, I never was what others would refer to as "A Team Player". I don't host public games, I don't care if whoever holds the D&D trademark is getting paid or not, and I don't stay up to date with whatever trends that the talking heads says is cool today. The hobby to me is DIY and the only opinions that really matter to me are the folks sitting at the table on game night.
I've never been to a convention, and probably never will. Looking over the constant flame wars and reading whines about what it isn't, being an isolationist really isn't that bad of a deal!

I read the post, its updates, and the hyperlinks provided. Webb withdrew from GaryCon, but ConTessa still pushes for the boycott because the author's view is that GaryCon should have booted Webb, not merely allow him to withdraw. It seems to me that the immediate problem was solved; if I were planning to attend GaryCon, Webb's withdrawal (as opposed to being ousted) would not persuade me to reconsider attending.

There are bad seeds everywhere and you cannot remove all of them. And this is the problem with the thought process involved with the Social Justice crowd: You are trying for a unattainable goal as long as there are humans with free will. Your little forced utopia will never exist. While one should strive for respect and some tolerance among all; you also need to make peace with the fact that this world will not change to an individual whim.
In the end, this looks like a dirty publicity stunt for Contessa and nothing more.

That blog post is a good post as I follow many Comicsgate people who get demonized as racists, misogynists (ect) because they criticize things they disagree with. There are POC, LGBT and female CG supporters, who are ignored or referred to as sock-puppets, bots and tools of the white patriarchists for daring to criticizes the sacred cows of the Cultural Marxists. |

This is such a silly thing. Did this woman not have a single friend there that she could trust? I have plenty of friends that if I guy wouldn't stop, I would give him a knee where it counts and they would swear it was self-defense.  They would have their story straight before it even happened. Self-defense is something you plan for and then you know what to do when you need to.  |
