Gloom is a game we have been playing for about a year now and we have really been enjoying it. The premise is that each player has a family of misfits that they must kill off while keeping the other families alive. Throughout the game you can play mishaps, helps and finally kill off each character. The fun factor comes from telling a story as this happens. For example; instead of just playing a card that says that my poor handyman drowned in drink I can tell how he did from being a sailor in the past and falling in love with a mermaid who died when a fellow sailor caught her while fishing and fed her to the crew. Or I can tell a story how a circus clown (controlled by an opponent) fell in love with another member of another family and they were wonderfully married. Each player picks up on the story and grows it throwing their twists and turns into the overall tale. Expansions add in houses, undead, expeditions, story ticklers and new families to the mix. It is best for four players but with the expansion I have we have played with five and six at one time. The expansions do include new rules but they fit on one card and are very simple. Artwork is done in an Edward Gorey theme and the cards are clear plastic so you can lay modifying cards on them and see the ones below to total score for each member. With it being a non-ccg and the expansions being fairly cheap I have been collecting the expansions and am working on the stand alone sets like Cthulhlu, Space, Fairy-Tale and Munchkin. It has become a great game when not playing D&D and has brushed my story-telling skills up. Overall it has been a nice addition to the collection and one I will continue playing.

I followed the link and that does sound like a fun game. Thanks for letting us know about it.

I've played it with an old group of mine when we wanted to game but didn't have enough players to play our regular campaign. I need to get it so I can play it with my nieces & nephews.
