This is a tuff one for me. I really like 1, 3 and 5 . If I had to pick I can narrow it down to 1 and 3. Mostly this is driven by wizards getting a new Level of spells. I dislike 4th and usually don't have the PCs at that for very long. Ok I can narrow it down to 3 I think
How about you?

I don't really have a favorite, but if I am pressed I would have to say I like 9th level and higher.

It has been my experience that the lower levels give all of the power to the DM, Mid-levels are pretty even as far as controlling the game, but at higher levels, the players have all of the cards. It is just easier to play low leveled games! I don't know if it is just because we do it so many times that we DMs can handle it better or what. Challanging high level characters that can hit every time, and the weakest character can create a doorway into another demention . . . I just suck at DMing at that level. Well, I did, back in the day when I was writting too much. I remember crafting encounters for the players that in my head was AWESOME! but at the table, was torn appart by one well placed spell and I'm just looking at them cause I got nothing now.
It did force me to be better at what I do. I am not a high level game master at all! But I think that that is just because I was too controling. The players must take the lead, and there really isn't any way to prep that. As a player, I think that you've got to be more aggressive about taking the lead and letting the DM know what you want out of the next game, and the DM has to be pretty flexable in his play style. I've read a few high-level modules and, man! They look like nightmares to try to pull off, just from an organizable standpoint. That was what I had as a point of reference, and I never wanted to go there. That is what makes places like Murkhill so exciting! Abandon your beliefs in what the game is supposed to be and except it for what it is. I think that I could do it now, it is just a matter of letting go of the reigns. We are there to introduce the world in the begining, but at some point it is the players who make their characters, not us.
