i am a very long time comic reader(not collector) and I of course being male never read the Archies but two have come into my hands lately. First from a year or two ago I got an Archie o Free Comic Day, it was an update to life in high school, it was a fun read. In October I got the free Halloween Jughead, who was a werewolf. A mostly serious look at a lycanthropy story. It was excellent. Weird huh?

I understand the desire as they need to grow their readership, but Archies was one of the few wholesome kid centric comic universes out there. That said I am not sure why being male would make Archies a thing you'd not read. I read some as a teen, they were aimed at the pre-teen to early teen crowd. That said, it was one of the few universes that made an effort to court girls as a readership in the US.

I read a few of the Archie's back in the 1960's and I remember a few Little Lulu comics and some others that I do not remember what they were now. They were good comics back then. I have not seen anything recent.

A lot of the older books were for kids, and since practically no kids read comics I like them the currant PG-13 versions. I understand the nostalgia we have from being kids but I reject it. I recently bought a bunch of comics from the 80s and the vat majority got buried to the bottom of my collection, unreadable. YMMV!

Personally I like limiting how much time kids of all ages can spend using tech and having other things for them to do including reading comics. I like reading to kids and telling stories and giving them the wide cultural background that most will miss out on.

I recently bought a bunch of comics from the 80s and the vat majority got buried to the bottom of my collection, unreadable. YMMV! Updating is fine in certain things, like I love the Tomb Raider update, as with the Rob Zombie Halloween & the Evil Dead reboots. Concerning comics, it depends on how they update them. Archie was iconic in style & tone, I do not like the reboots. I hate the TV series as it is real dark - which is antithetical to the Archie universe. This is coming from a guy who likes Dark comics & Death Metal. Oh there are A LOT of 80s comics that both art & story-wise that are horribly dated like one of my "Favorites" Darkewood and Elf Lord. When I was young I loved them but I rebought them recently and they did not age well as I thought they would. Like certain anime didn't age well Robotech, Star Blazers & the like but updates could be awesome. Comics like Groo, ElfQuest & late 80s Faust hold up well.

I like reading to kids and telling stories and giving them the wide cultural background that most will miss out on. My nieces & nephews spend WAY too much time watch Youtube or playing video games. Only my eldest niece is physically active, she plays basketball & volunteers. My younger niece does read a lot but also spends WAY too much time watching YT videos. I feel bad for them, as a kid I had a blast exploring, rowing a canoe up & down a canal behind my grandparents old house, catching lizards, snakes and frogs. Having fun, getting hurt, learning my limits and responsibility are being lost on the youth unless they live in Rural America & have awesome parents.
