I'm creating this thread for tips about how to maximize our use of the forum. Perhaps, if it contains good stuff,
Admin Pete will want to "sticky" it.
TAGGING
Tagging other members is a really good way to keep a conversation going or get folks attention whom you want to alert when you are starting a new one. This is where you see the forum user's name highlighted in blue (as with
Admin Pete, here and above). When you quote someone, they are informed that you have quoted them. But we don't always want to quote, even though we want to interact with a particular point that a member has made. Tagging also gets that members attention. When you tag someone, they are informed that they have been tagged the next time they visit, similar to the way they are informed that they have been "liked" or quoted.
Most of the time you can tag someone by placing the "@" symbol in front of their member name.
Sometimes, however, member's user-names and the way they appear on the forum are slightly different. You can scroll your cursor over their name and their user name, as appropriate, should appear.
One of the easiest ways to tag is this: once you've placed a cursor in the quick-reply dialogue box, you can then scroll over the user's name from above within the thread. On a mac (don't know how to do this on a PC but I am sure there is an equivalent) just hit the "alt/option" key, and then click on the user's name. Their name will appear, as appropriate, with the "@" symbol in front of it, instantly, down in the dialogue box.
Enjoy!
