Forum Rules and Guidelines for Better Posting
These forums are a labor of love by an all volunteer staff and those who came before us. These are the rules and guidelines of The Ruins of Murkhill. It is our firmly held belief that we are all adults and that we are all capable of playing nice with one another and that no further rules should be needed.
Nevertheless, we realize not everyone shares that belief, so the rules and guidelines presented below are for those who may not share our belief. Pretend that someone you love and respect and whose approval is extremely important to you is going to judge your behavior. Even if you are not a decent person, act like one anyway and you'll be fine here.
1. If your Administrators or Moderators determine that someone is being an unpleasant irritant or is being detrimental to board harmony or worse is actively working against board harmony that person may be talked to either publically or privately, your posts may be edited or deleted and you may be banned and this is at the sole discretion of management (Admins and Mods).
We'll try to give you one or more warnings before taking action against you or your posts, but we don't have to. Somethings in posts are so heinous they will be dealt with immediately when we find or are made aware of them and this is at the sole discretion of management (Admins and Mods).
Once we notice or hear about bad behaviour on these boards our time is being wasted and unnecessarily at that and we will act swiftly and as we see fit so that we can get back to enjoying the games that we are here for.
2. There is no, "But the rules didn't tell me specifically that I couldn't do or say that" provision. This is an old school forum and as such it is rulings not rules, so when you do something that is clearly in our judgement something which violates the decorum and the culture of this forum, we will make a ruling and we will act.
3. We have zero tolerance for the promotion of beliefs, practices and political philosophies that are harmful to children. All sexual topics both normal and abnormal are off topic at this forum. There is an abundance of places on the Internet that welcome such discussion, but it is not welcome here.
4. We do not tolerate racism, bigotry, name-calling or argumentative, aggressive, trollish behavior. We don't tolerate spammers, whether bot or human. Play nice or you can’t play here at all.
5. Politics, religion and spirituality, personal morals and values; except in a gaming context; are all off-topic here. Take it somewhere else.
There are minor exceptions as detailed below.
A. We do maintain a thread were members can post about difficulties IRL for the giving and receiving of encouragement including religious and spiritual encouragement.
B) Semi-exception for your personal campaign forum you have a bit more leeway.
C) Even there, please use common sense and watch your language.
D) If you don’t like what someone has in their personal campaign forum, DO NOT READ IT and do not post in their threads either, just walk away.
6. If you report a post using the report function (Preferred method) to the Admins, consider the matter handed over to us. This means you walk away from the argument on the thread in which it took place, and you leave it there. This means that you should not be replying in thread to a post that you are reporting. If you email us, please do that in addition to the report function and not in place of the report function.
7. If you have a problem in a PBP game or in a Project go to the PBP Referee or to the Project Coordinator first if you consider it minor, if you consider it worse than minor or do not think it was addressed then go to number 6 above.
8. The rules of the games discussed on this board are not sacred text and by the book fanaticism is off topic at this board. There are many places that cater to that cult, please take it there.
9. Membership on the board is a privilege, not a right.
10. Per our board rules, please do not delete your posts/threads. Besides the fact it removes the context of other posts in the thread, this board serves as a searchable database for answers. Others who may have the same question would be able to search and use a given thread or post for obtaining the answer to their question. Thank you.
Further guidance for friendly posting
1. Play friendly with each other. Approach things as though every poster is a close friend, give each other that level of consideration and due your best to give everything a charitable reading.
2. Try to stay on topic; please start a new thread instead of derailing the thread someone else started. Yeah, we know - not quite as easy as it sounds.
3. Friendly banter in threads is not off topic, but if it derails a thread a lot we may move a string of banter or puns or whatnot to a new thread so that the original topic does not get lost.
4. Use Likes and Karma wisely! This means using them to point out and encourage people whose posts really contribute to the community in your opinion and are deserving of being recognized and encouraged by knowing that you enjoyed/were helped by their post(s)!
