Here are my suggestions! I reworded some of the passive voice statements, rearranged your parenthetical abbreviations, added one parenthetical clause to the actual sentence structure, removed "and/or," and broke up the last sentence into a question and response. I hope this helps. It's just a quick stab at trimming the text and not an in-depth effort.

@gizka, I like most of the suggested improvements, although I do think the invitation for old school games that are not D&D related such as Traveller, Arduin (I know it started as a D&D supplement, still), Gamma World and many other old school games should still be included. Not sure of the best way to word it, but noting that not D&D is welcome is I think a plus.

I would bold the Original Dungeons & Dragons in the second sentence, first paragraph. I would add all of the additional the words in bold (although not as bold type) from that point on and I have considered colinouchou 's comments.

Does anyone else have any comments about the Purpose Statement? If so please opine.

We are all a group of individuals, together we form a team. Areas where I am weak, someone here is strong. The mission statement is a guideline, but we aren't limited by these guidelines. Is this an OD&D Forum, is this an Old-school Forum, is this a workshop, do we focus on world-building? The answer is yes! To limit ourselves to just one of these things is to neglect important avenues of original thought.
The mission statement is for new users. Something that they can read to quickly get an idea about what it is that we do before they post. Of course, we do more! We also have our own individual focuses which are what defines us.
There was a really interesting time period in gaming that was too short-lived; Those years between Arneson running Blackmoor through to AD&D codifying the game. We call it OD&D but it was really people inventing their own systems and interpreting the rules to discover new vistas. Every table across the board ran completely different games; of particular interest, were the tables that did not run Greyhawk. They invented their own fantasy realms, their own procedures, their own vision of what could be done with this product; some were published, most were lost. These are interesting! In some way, we are attempting to emulate not just that game, but that time period.
WE are not always welcome in gaming circles. The majority of users don't want a question answered by somebody who comes along and tells them to just make it up. We question the rules, we push boundaries, we seek to be the masters. In this place, and with these people, we are happy. We can brainstorm and invent without the BTB majority telling us that we are doing it wrong. We are all in different places and have different ideas. That makes us, and what we do here, important. During this period of creativity and DIY, the unpublished world of Murkhill was invented by a single guy. Murkhill is not the banner that we carry, it is the spirit of that user that we glorify and proudly bear so that others can see it.
A mission statement has been published, and, just like our own projects, it must be interpreted and defined by those who read it.

I think the mission statement, err Statement of Purpose is just fine the way it is, I see no reason to keep tweaking it since we would never be unanimous on the changes.

For the Admin and the Steering Committee: Down in the Gateway to the Classic Campaign Settings I propose that you add a new section for Kalibruhn so that we can discuss the limited information available along with other Rob Kuntz things. I realize down in the other section for personal campaigns there is the section "Kalibruhn - The World of Robert J Kuntz", but that section is locked at the request of robkuntz and besides the ability to discuss anything from there is onerous in the requirements, I mean who wants to type out a full copyright citation over and over in a single post. So I propose that for the new forum section we ignore that area of the forum and link to sources outside the forum for our discussion. We still have to abide by his requirements of not quoting him, but even with that limitation we should have a good discussion. Also I have a second request an that is that we add a section for Fred's World. It will be much easier to discuss since he wanted his world to be shared and discussed and the normal quoting guidelines will apply to his stuff so the discussion should grow more quickly. Fred's World - Memorial Collection PdfAlso I have a third request that we have a section for discussing the Lost Megadungeon of Tonisborg. See the Hidden In Shadows blog ( The Lost Dungeon of Tonisborg)

In the meantime, why don't you start some threads in the Village Commons and if discussion is forthcoming then they will be the initial threads to be moved if new forums are created.

I wonder, how does Proboards keep track of what posts are new to each user?

I wonder, how does Proboards keep track of what posts are new to each user? Just a programming thing in the software. The software registers when something is viewed, for page views and that is connected to the users, IP address or account for members.

That seems like it would get really bulky to store all that, but what do I know. Is it just connected to the timestamp on the last message in each thread, you think, so anything after that time is "new"?

I really have no idea how the programming or how long that logging is kept, I would guess those types of logs are kept semi-indefinitely. I believe that if you don't log in for months, when you do log in all of that information will be there waiting for you.

Hello, all. The subforum for Toldara keeps showing as having new messages for me, but then...doesn't seem to. Does anyone know what causes this?
