No link for the Gray Book since it is a non-OGL mashup of mostly OD&D, some AD&D and bits from other places. Comments on The Gray Book (This blog posts tells more about it and the links in the article are dead so the article is safe to link to)
I provided this as an example of how one person did their own personal ruleset for use at their own table.

The Gray Book looks an awful lot like AD&D to me. I applaud all of the "retro-clone" offers as i think they make the old new again and, more importantly, make the old somewhat available at reasonable (i.e. non-collector) prices. As a friend and fellow gamer pointed out, my old rule books did not suddenly stop working properly, unlike past versions of various operating systems, So personally I have no reason for yet another rule set, beyond my own curiosity and occasional obsessiveness LOL

The bold is my feeling exactly. Have an Exalt!

Though I did not need any of the items being sold I couldn't resist...especially when they were marked from $3 to $5 each! I cannot help but give old gaming material a "new home..." Probably why I conservatively have a few thousand items stashed in my basement.

I wonder if you have something in there you bought for a few dollars that would sell for thousands now?

My collection is more of an accumulation. To date probably the most valuable items we had were my Wife's. A set of sparkly Chessex dice that apparently contain glitter made from the cladding used on the Euro? Came across a thread on the Acaeum where someone sold a set for close to $2K??? I knew she had a set because, well, they're sparkly. When I told her about the thread she asked me to post them on Ebay as she didn't use them and had bills to pay. Even without the Chessex ID paper normally included in the dice cube they sold for approx. $950.00...unbelievable. Amongst my prized goodies are 1st prints of the AD%D PH (not a true 1st though,) a DMG, an MM and a 4th printing of the OD&D Collectors White Box. Also a sizeable accumulation of EoPT and a copy of MA signed by Dave Sutherland. Lots of fiddly bits in the accumulation as I just can't pass up a deal if I see one. I'll try and post some pics when I have a chance.
Prolly my MOST prized items aren't even official gaming items. Back in the '80's one of my best friends and fellow gamers was a prolific pencil artist and I have a number of fantasy character sketches by him. He sadly took his own life in 1987 so I memorialize him by displaying the sketches around the gaming area. I also have and use some dice owned by another good childhood friend who passed suddenly in August 2020. What better way to keep his spirit alive than to let some of his dice share in the glory that is our gaming table?

I am sorry to hear about your friend, I had a friend who took his own life at 18. That is the saddest thing when people do that. I'm sorry that happened to you, but good that you are memorializing him with good memories.

simrion, in the 1st picture 4th shelf down from the top to the left of the Flashlight. What are the books on their sides with the ends pointing out at the camera? And to their left what are the older looking 10-12 books that look digest sized? Then next shelf down far left side books that look older? Then the shelf below that at the right hand side a bunch of older looking books? Thanks, very curious about those.

I think you're referring to the tiny 21st Century Games reprints of the Easley cover AD&D 1st editions? Or a couple of Dragon Ante Decks from Empcho.
And to their left what are the older looking 10-12 books that look digest sized?
These might be the AD&D mini reprints...
Then next shelf down far left side books that look older?
Those might be old Runequest supplements, more Runequest to the left out of frame.
Then the shelf below that at the right hand side a bunch of older looking books?
A hodgepodge of Basic/Expert and other Basic D&D modules, supplements and the Gazetteers.
Not in the least an organized collection but I have a general idea where something is and can typically lay hands on in 10 minutes or so :-)

So back on topic, anyone tried The Greybook rules in practical application. Just curious. I lean more and more towards Swords & Wizardry Complete should I one day run an "old-school" game and, of course, get player buy-in.
