I just saw this THE FANTASY TRIP – Old-School Roleplaying! Help us bring back Steve Jackson's first tabletop RPG. by Steve Jackson Games. Their goal was $20,000.00 and in less than 24 hours they are already up to $81,274.00 and 1,067 backers and growing. In fact it is growing so fast they have to keep thinking of new stretch goals to add because they keep getting blown out of the water so fast. Steve Jackson must be ecstatic right now and he should be. His regaining the rights to his own game looks to be one of the smartest moves he ever made. It is going to be exciting to see how high and deep and wide his backing becomes. I am happy for him, this is well deserved.

It will be interesting to see how he addresses the production errors that he noted at the beginning of his publication of Space Gamer.

Has anyone played this? I was too young and missed out back in the day. Do you think the game has enough traction where we should add a sub forum for it?

I never played it but I have heard a lot of good things about it. He blew past the kickstarter goal in about the first half-hour the kickstarter was live.

Yeah it's crazy. I went ahead and backed it. I tried GURPS a bit back in the day but lost interest in it too crunchy after a while. I heard about TFT as a leaner version and wanted to try but honestly it fell off my radar until the KS so I look forward to trying it.

I never played but did own it and read it, stealing stuff from it for D&D.I doubt it would hold up in a long term game but would work well for the "Beer and Pretzels " crowd

This kickstarter is rally ramping up higher all the time. They are probably out celebrating already. As a designer he must really feel vindicated.

So I've borrowed a copy of In the Labyrinth, advanced melee and wizard to get a feel for the game. So far it seems interesting has a bit more then od&d but not too unwieldy. I understand they will be undergoing some clarifications and format improvements. To me so far it seems more playable than GURPS as far as less crunch. I've got to wonder though back in the day how much competition TFT gave od&d. I'll have to read the books more and do some thinking but I may run a trial game of this at some point and see how it plays.

Agreed this KS is really sky rocketing. I wonder if Steve Jackson was hoping for this or if he is just in shock right now? He is getting really close to blowing another goal out of the water at $130,000.

Twenty-two days to go and they are almost at 2000 backers (1910) and already over 8 times the goal.

They are at $172,991 and 1997 backers. Pretty good for a project with a goal of $20,000. Still 19 days to go.

I'll have to read the books more and do some thinking but I may run a trial game of this at some point and see how it plays. TFT never really got a chance to compete with D&D. Not a whole lot of support from Howard, and his last-minute changes made TFT look chintzy and the yellow-covered adventure look even less professional. It soon became obvious that Metagaming had pretty much been dependent on Steve's creations. Even if TFT had been published as intended (and as it now IS, but at a much higher cost) TSR released the DMG for AD&D and the B/X set in boxes, and got all these in bookstores and toy stores, at which point the only way to stop TSR would be if they destroyed themselves. But nobody that successful could be so stupid as to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

They are on the verge of cracking $200,000 or 10 times the starting goal. Looks like this is going to make a splash and live up to the hype. If the original had been in the box with all the goodies that the stretch goals have added it would have been some competition for sure bitd.

This finished up a little while ago with $314,572 pledged of $20,000 goal and 3,379 backers. I really would have liked to pledge at the $25.00 level to get the pdf but I just couldn't do it.

Rolegamers were never known for our sanity. That's because there are so many other good qualities to mention first.
