I just realized that I had already made a mistake. I didn't notice that there is more math involved on my end than 1gp = 1 xp. I had the players taking care of their own XP, but now I notice PC level and Dungeon Level is relative; that 3rd level characters only get 1/3 of that while exploring the first dungeon level. Do you observe this rule? If you do, how do you chart Experience? I'm not sure how to do it because players pass out treasure to each other, should I just have them record treasure gained that game on a separate sheet of paper?
Typically, in AD&D, I use a tiny notebook and I write down their names and make ticks for player specific XP earned, and below the names, I tracked the Group XP which was divided among them at the end of the session. I didn't care what level they were, they all got an even share of this and had to share it with followers.
I've got to refigure how I do this.

I usually do 1xp = 1 gp. But since I'm not always treasure heavy I will award x.p. for exploration to encourage exploration. I usually don't give x.p for monsters to discourage the mentality that you have to fight and kill everything for x.p.

I have changed how I do XP many times, right now I am using XP as roughly 1 XP = 1 GP spent, the specifics are down my pbp.

I am curious,as I know that I'll want to award XP for non-dungeon focused adventures where gold might be scarce?

I'm running Isle of dread right now so I award 50-75 xp per hex explored and mapped. If they discover a site of interest I'll award 800 - 2000 xp for discovering and exploring the site. The more dangerous and risky will weigh heavily on how much I award. Here's a blog post that talks about something similar. jrients.blogspot.com/2009/12/exploration.html

IMC I use 10 GP equals 1 XP. I like advancement to be slow.

I made people spend them, along with money, for training. Unless they didn't want to increase in skills/levels /badminton. Once spent and leveled up, the characters had to earn from zero, not from the balance they had before training.
I was going to say I put the xp in a Tupperware container and only took them out to torture.
