I am currently re-reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and next I will re-read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These are two of the finest books in the English language IMO.

I'm reading the Game of Thrones series. The first book wasn't very deep but so far the rest of them have been fantastic.

I'm on page 207 of the combined 'The Iron Tower' trilogy by Dennis L. McKiernan, which is the first non-light novel I've seriously gotten into in a while. I originally separately in 1984 or '85. I loved them, even though they were a pastiche of Tolkien - i actually preferred them to LOTR and Hobbit.

I am getting ready to start reading the Lensman Series by Edward Everett Smith for the first time. Let us know how the series is as I've never read it Mighty Darci. You might get an idea of it by reading a few key issues from the second series of Green Lantern and the Showcase (origin) issues from around 1959. John Broome and Julius Schwartz borrowed heavily from the Lensmen.

I am currently planning an expedition back to middle-earth. I simply love it there. I can't tell you how many times I've read it, I just know that I miss it after a while.

Justice League comic book. It's got a real cool cosmic angle, just wrapped up a Legion of Doom story arc that ended in a draw. Batman and Lex Luther were both riding inside Superman's brain.

Was this a loose issue or in a Graphic Novel? Issues 1-7, wild stuff w very very little combat, I'm sure it will be out in graphic form. JL is one of their flagship titles.

Ok I am about to embrace heresy(far greater than being a Big Bang Theory fanatic). I HATE Tolkien in any form, there I feel like a great weight has gotten off my shoulders

Can't possibly be heresy. I disliked Tolkien for YEARS until I learned how to read him.
1. Skip past all songs. 2. Skip past all ultra-descriptions where it seems like he describes every single blade of grass. 3. Recognize that Brits of his generation NEVER went in a straight line (Frodo had the same flaw) unless their name was Churchill.

Then pick up the Hobbit comics, reprinted in graphic novel format. It seems to me that the project was started by Eclipse but finished by -- Rats! Old Age Amnesia strikes again!

Actually, I was the same too for many years. I had watched the cartoon and it made Bilbo out to be much weaker than the character really was, though I ended up reading it as an adult and found the enchantment. Back in the early days of the Internet there was kind of this shared reading list, things that everybody had read. I will allow you to continue to participate even though you aren't a fan, however, I draw the line with Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. This is for your practical safety, Mao!

On the next day of Overlithe, we shall meet in the Weathertop Moors for a staring contest; and don't try painting eyeballs on your face again, for I won't fall for it like I did the last 8 times, deceiver.

You always say you won't fall for it and you always do. That's because you never notice that I paint eyeballs on my EYEGLASSES. (Why do you think they call them EYEglasses?) But for a consolation prize after being an 8-time Good Sport, have an exalt.

I read the first 4 books, is this by another writer? [zbr] Yeah, Frank Herbert's son Brian cowrote a mess of Dune prequels with Kevin Anderson, all based on Frank's notes. They do an excellent job.
