If anyone has feedback for any of these I am sure that @piper would love to see it and comment on his blog as he did before.

After I read them, I'm too tired to comment. Or think. Or maybe it's the fact that I have averaged five hours of sleep per 43 hours at a time.

I learned it that clerics are lawful or chaotic from the start of play.
What? I didn't know it changed with the 5th print.

I briefly mentioned that in my ‘blog post, so I assumed he was addressing the latter printings. Thanks for the reminder! On a personal note? First time a gamer mentioned to me Clerics could be neutral until 7th level? I thought he was pulling my leg!

1st thru 4th print: <<Note that Clerics are either "Law" or "Chaos", and there is a sharp distinction between them.>> (Dec 1975) 5th print: <<Note that Clerics of the 7th level and greater are either "Law" or "Chaos", and there is a sharp distinction between them.>>

I believe there was an article in one of the earlier Dragon magazines, but it seems the best guide is how you, the referee, feel about it. Lawful Clerics: beneficial forms, avoiding inflict wounds or finger of death unless it directly serves the needs of his deity.
Chaotic Anti-Clerics: baneful forms, avoiding cure light wounds or raise dead without extenuating circumstances.
Neutral Clerics: cast either mode, depending upon the Cleric's particular need at the moment and, in some cases, to prevent either Law or Chaos gaining ascendancy. If I had Neutral Clerics IMC, that's how I would run it. I hope it helps.

To further explore Clerics and Neutrality? When it came to turning undead, I would look at the majority of spells he employed that day. If Law? I would allow the turning attempt. If it was less clear-cut I would assign percentages and roll the dice (e.g. mostly Chaos with a few Lawful spells? Roll d6 and you may make the attempt if your score if 1 or 2). When I got OD&D, there were no Neutral Clerics so I never added them to my campaign. This is how I would tend to rule if I added them, at least until I could see how it worked out in play.

@piper you are just chugging along and getting this done. You are likely to inspire others to do their own version.

@piper you are making me think about doing my own commentary on OD&D, more along the lines of here is how I interpreted this and here is how I have ruled during games or something along those lines. Will have to see what I have time to do.

I would exalt Piper every time he adds to his annotations/commentary, but since he's not here I'll exalt you for facilitating the project through this here board right here.
(I need to create one of them there signature files to fill up this space.)
