How many of you cool cats & kittens, like what is referred to as Dieselpunk & Pulp Fiction? If so do you have any favorite fiction (short stories, novellas/novels & comics) you enjoy & recommend? Any of you dabble in the Dieselpunk scene as cosplayers/lifestylers, artists, writers or musicians? Have any of you run games set in such a campaign setting?
I am delving into the Dieselpunk subculture & the literature that inspires it. I always loved films set during the 20s to 50s, especially films like Indiana Jones, more modern films like the Mummy Trilogy (I do not count the Cruz film as part of that series or a worthy successor), war films & gangster films set in the era. I liked some of the comics based upon old Pulp radio programs, the comics & fiction they spawned (The spider, Dick Tracy, The Phantom & such).
A dear friend of mine & I are working on a personal passion project rooted in Dieslpunk & our love for Pulpy Adventure Yarns. Though it'll likely be more than something to entertain ourselves, if the quality is high & we find some talented partners down the road, we might actually publish something based on the project. The project is a Diselpunk Superhero fiction project initially set in the early 20s New Orleans, but likely to spread beyond the Big Easy. There is a great chance whether or not the fiction project bears fruit I'll likely use the setting as the basis for a future 0D&D or OSR based campaign.

I'll post updates from time to time in this thread Mighty Darci; until then I will post a link to my Dieselpunk Pinterest board. I have a board of inspiration for my World of Skarn as well but I might tweak it a bit to make sure it fits my evolving vision of Skarn. My Dieselpunk Pinterest Board

The project stalled as the friend I am working with on it is going through a rough patch at home, plus she is trying to juggle a full time job at a hospital & taking courses at a college. So this project is on hiatus for the foreseeable future. That all said I have related RPG project I am going through the brainstorming stage on. I was looking through my copy of the WWII Operation White Box PDF recently & had been listening to a few Youtube videos by Quest Wise & got to thinking about a potential Dieselpunk/Post-Apocalyptic/Fantasy campaign setting. Even though I have some issues with aspects of the rules, the WWII Operation White Box RPG along with the Paolo Parente's Dust war game has got my imagination kicking into overdrive. As I am also a big fan of Palladium Books RIFTS, the Lore Megaverse videos by Quest Wise has me going "What if" the Nazis (potentially) conned by German Occultists to find major relics (ala Indiana Jones & Hellboy) to break the seal keeping the mythic world separated from the mundane world? I figure I could mine some awesome comics (Hellboy, Wake & others) and films (such as Classic Monster movies & modern ones - like Underworld) - then mesh them with OD&D or Delving Deeper to create a fun gonzo setting to run campaigns in. Take Operation Werewolf, instead of just being elite SS soldiers doing guerrilla attacks; those elite Nazis are actual Werewolves doing the same but far more effectively. Nazi scientists gather up Doctor Frankenstein's old research creating super soldiers - as blunt weapons to toss at allied forces and new inhuman threats that are now popping up across the world. Toss in Zombies, Goblins, Orcs, Dragons & Giants, plus actual magic users - but take rules like those from Low Fantasy Gaming to make the magic just as dangerous to the user as to the target. What do you guys think? I know that Mighty Darci & True Black Raven showed an interest in the original project. If I get enough work done on it I might see of getting a forum to post setting info for it here.

I am wishing her the best. I am also interested in your new project and sounds like a lot of fun with great villains.

Let your friend know we are praying for her, (you might post in the thread up top too) and sorry that your project is on hold. Will look for when you get back to it. Am interested in your new project, I would play in that if I lived close by.

I'll need to do a bit of research on the era & personalities that populated, plus reread through Hellboy & watch a variety of monster movies to get inspiration. As I said in the blog thread I'll likely be posting about the fundamentals of doing this with OD&D as a possible starting point on this project and share the development of it & the cyberpunk project via the blog, leaving much of the actual stuff to be posted here. But I'd like to work on this as I can do it myself and it'll scratch the Dieselpunk itch until my friend is ready to continue our other project.
