So, as many of you may or may not know, I love to write fanfiction and a little bit of original fiction as well. But it has been a long while since I have written anything of note or importance.
But that has recently changed. As of today, I have written the first two chapters of a new fan-fiction that is focused on role-playing games, wargaming, and childhood nostalgia and memories of being a kid in rural Virginia during the late 1990's and early 2000's (I was born in 1993).
Granted, the RPG system in question is Big Eyes Small Mouth, rather than OD&D or another old-school system like Traveller. But the campaign in the story will be run in an old-school manner similar to how OD&D was mostly played back in the 1970's and early 1980's. The work is a "Story Within A Story", with the early chapters serving as a framing device for the actual main story, which depicts the in-character events of a role-playing campaign done in an old-school manner from an in-character perspective.
It is titled
War Toys: Operation Martin Hollow and it is the first story in a series of works focusing on role-playing games and the old-school sandbox way to play.
The next story will focus on OD&D (or something similar to it in setting at least). The story is linked below.
