GaryCon X Update / Sneak Preview!Went down to Cincinnati today with my daughter, and stopped by Iron Wind Metals where GaryCon X prep is well under way! Mike, James, Melissa, Nathan, Jim, and the whole gang was working overtime today prepping the IWM loadout for the show. For GM’s at the show, if you complete the required Gming slots/hours for your part in the show, you’ll receive this gorgeous GM’s shirt in addition to the regular SWAG you get, just for attending this year… If you happen to be a Volunteer at the show, like me, you’ll be entitled to receive this rare and exclusive GenCon X Volunteers T-Shirt, Woohoo! Also, it’s looking like Thursdays is shaping up to be Fantasy Costume Thursdays, and Friday will be Sci-Fi Friday for the cosplay fans, or maybe its the other way around… can’t remember with all the excitement, so bring your costume, ...both of them, if you have them, as I heard there just might be a few prizes for awesome costumes as well! Also don’t forget to bring your Hawaiian Shirt for the Saturday tribute Group Photo for Gary! The Official GaryCon Charity Auction this year is going to support the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that helps veterans and active service members providing in mental health support, health & wellness programs, physical and mental rehabilitation programs, along with career & VA Benefits counseling, and also special connection events such as hunting trips, sporting events, and educational summits to support the long-term recovery of warriors by connecting them with fellow service members as well as their community. You can learn more about this here; Wounded Warrior Project Websitewww.woundedwarriorproject.org/I’ll have another post on Monday or Tuesday showing some of the exclusive miniatures that will only be available at 2018 Conventions where Iron Wind Metals will have a booth this year. (I need to paint these up first, ...so, give me a couple of days, eh?) Also heard there are still a few Hotel rooms available in Lake Geneva, however it is very likely that all the Hotels in Lake Geneva will be fully booked before GaryCon begins, so if you haven’t already done so, and you want a room close to GaryCon, one should make haste to reserve or book a room! The GaryCon website has a few additional Hotels listed for overflow of guests! And while you're at GaryCon find me, and I'll let you buy me a beer!
No need to thank me, that's just the generous kind of guy I am.

This was the best GaryCon yet, and possibly the best convention I've ever been to. The Legends of Wargaming room just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I love it.

I left my GaryCon X - events guide at work yesterday. For now though, there is the solace of additional pictures of gaming goodness from the show; tamerthya.blog/2018/03/17/garycon-x-games-being-played/

No biggy. It was more rhetorical than in being an actual request. As long as people are playing, that's the point.

Well, Here was the list of games that you designed that were a part of GaryCon X
Thursday 8 AM - GenCon VIII 1975 first D&D Tournament.
Thursday 1 PM - GenCon VII 1974 First D&D Adventure for Castle Greyhawk
Friday 1 PM - Dark Druids run by Paul Stormberg
Friday 1 PM Terry Kuntz ran Sturmgeshutz & Sorcery
Saturday 6-9 PM Original Greyhawk Castle Rob Kuntz 1974
Also saw the El Raja Key on at least one gaming table down in the Forum. Not sure if that was a buy at the show, or someone running a game down in the Forum.

If I had been there there I would have played the Sturmgeshutz & Sorcery session (for old times sake). Really missing tactical wargames these days.

I realized this year that I like the historical miniatures wargames more than I like RPGs.
Also, Mike Carr's DGUTS had 4 women players. 3 were novices, and all did at least as well as any of the men.
Last year a young lady playing her first-ever wargame in DGUTS captured 2 enemy Frency frigates and recaptured a British frigate the Frenchies had taken. This year she commanded the British fleet.

@ Gronan: Yeah, it was many years ago that I realized that. I see more open-mindednes in design attitudes from that quarter as well. I'm writing an essay on the perceptible shift in attitudes (between design viewed through the wargamer mindset vs. the RPGer mindset) as they are stark. RPGs are still fun, but they will not replace my gaming days (1968 onward) leading up to them for excitement.
So you and I should get someone to do another Starguard scenario (Stormberg??) for the road. Even Paul probably hasn't accounted for McKewan in the mix.

I'm saving my pennies to buy some Starguard figures. I got rid of all my figs ten years ago, and at the time it was the right move.
Best part about Starguard is that you can play with a squad per side. Zap zap zap!

Paul would probably want me to rum something as well. Great times with all of those mini battles!

As Gronan would exclaim: "Har!" What really astonishes me is how often that works. Right, Dragondaddy? Well, he did let me buy him a beer. ...Of Course, back when I started playing D&D, I'd always hit up Dennis K to bring a twelve pack of Coors. He always did, ...especially if we paid cash!

I'll have to relate Gary and me co-"DMing" while partaking of Pimm's Cup and Southern Comfort; or our bloody-mary forays at DragonCon #1 with Robert Asprin, or... oh never mind, days gone by...

Not sure if he was gamer (his TW got licensed as a game as I recall) but he sure was a drinker!
