Global Pandemic, Total Global Economic collapse, and Nuclear War is what I am partial too and the first causes the second which causes the third. I could also go for the Asteroid Impact or the Super Volcano Eruption.

I voted for Bio-Engineered pandemic & Aliens. Though I like the WW3/Nuclear Armageddon trope, I loved the first few seasons of Defiance & the who alien invasion/war & terraforming thing. In a past attempt at both a cyberpunk & P-A setting I tried to write up bio-engineered viruses played a big part in the devastation.

I like the idea of a Global Socio-Economic Collapse as opposed to nuclear or environmental disasters, as I feel it's underused in post-apocalyptic fiction.

I like the combination of a Global Pandemic and Total Global Economic Collapse as I feel the former would lead to the latter.

There are so many good ones can we do a asteroid impact followed by a super-volcano eruption followed by total global economic collapse followed by mass starvation and war with a global pandemic and with a limited nuclear war, say no more than 20 nukes launched.

Have you ever read or watched the movie of Cormic McCarthy’s THE ROAD? He never mentions the cause of the apocalypse in the book, but in an interview once he stated that it was a comet impact. So I go with comet impact for a change of pace.

I voted for super-volcano, pandemic and economic collapse. Right now it is looking like it will be the last two in combination, with the first causing the second which will lead to an even worse pandemic.

I picked three, aliens (how would we recover from War of the Worlds?), then for tradition nuclear war (Morrow project, gamma world, etc.), and finally asteroid impact (I really enjoyed Lucifer's Hammer by Pournelle & Niven).
If I could have gone for four it would have included Unknown?
Leave the players as in the dark as their characters.

Unknown is a good way to go, but the world would bear scars of any of the above and so the players/characters might get little hints, but it would take years of play to start to put it together, just like it would if it were real.
