At Wills, The idea of this is to make everybody have some options in combat . All classes would get a few of these so you can do more than just ssay"I swing". for example a fighter might have 3 options: 1 attack that pushes enimy back one squre, Plus 2 to damage but -2 to hit, +2 to hit but just yor wespon dice for damage
Daily powers for magic items, basicly your magic item on can be used once a day, really makes it easy to load up your pcs with a ton of low level stuff that will not break the bank
The concept of bloodied. when you are low in HP you trigger a bloodied condition that other power and abilities(such as Magic items) can be triggered off of'
Fantastic Terrain. battle terrain that has an effect on your combat abilities, for example squares that when you stand in them all hits are critical and all misses are critical
I'm sure there is more but these 4 are just crying out to be exploited in OSR games

My player can tell me the ref, they are trying to drive their opponent back, or trying to hit extra hard at a minus to hit. Or if you have damage bonuses exchange them for a better chance to hit. If we wanted to we could do that, but my experience has been that players like to keep the game moving. If group likes that extra flavor, go for it. Daily powers for magic items, basicly your magic item on can be used once a day, really makes it easy to load up your pcs with a ton of low level stuff that will not break the bank More explanation please. We already have that in OD&D. Sword, bracers, armor, etc. - each gets used multiple times as needed. Potions, each spell on a scroll - use only and so on. I also don't see the point in have the PCs load up on a ton of magic items. Player tend to forget to use both mundane and magic them have without doing that. The concept of bloodied. when you are low in HP you trigger a bloodied condition that other power and abilities(such as Magic items) can be triggered off of' Not sure how this works or how to explain it. Do you have more details? Fantastic Terrain. battle terrain that has an effect on your combat abilities, for example squares that when you stand in them all hits are critical and all misses are critical You are digging a grave, monsters attack while you are standing in a hole 6 feet deep, you are at a major disadvantage or they are in a hole and to get at you they have to climb out, they are at a major disadvantage. Seems to me that is already covered by the ref in adjudicating combat.

4e is a very good, very tight game. It was designed well and it's fun to play.
Two of the things I really like about it are in the monsters. One, the monster manual gives examples of monster families. If you want a werebear, it will give you minions that suit a werebear.
The other thing I like is minions - they are identical to normal creature but the have one hit point. Great Cannon fodder.

Oh I have no idea what would be a werebear minion. Maybe a dire bear? A little blond girl who breaks into houses? It was just an example.

I don't like the 4e implementation of it, but I really like the idea of classes having multiple at-will options and limited-use options, instead of just the spellcasters.
