I was pleased with this survey as well. Sure, we'll no doubt be out-voted, but it does show that we are acknowledged. I like sourcebooks and would love to see them move into a more system neutral direction. I had bought the 5e Starter Set because it was cheap and I was interested. It looked like D&D! I did convert it over to AD&D, but we just don't have much luck with module play and ended up getting bored of it. I have found uses for a few of the maps though. I think that the biggest issue that we have with RPG materials right now is that they are over-developed. That was a huge issue with the Starter Set, the paper is glossy and you can't write on it. Lower the quality and the price and we might have a deal. I don't know about your books, but mine are all marked up. Errata, fixing errors, I've got crap written all over the margins for things that I want to remember, loose leaf papers of notes crammed into them, sections highlighted, sections crossed out. A good core handbook is never finished and is a place to keep our ideas where we can find them. I am always buying PHBs, you can't have enough of those on the table, and it never fails to amaze me just how clean they always are. My bindings are all well cared for, but the pages are more marked up than a sailor.

I noticed there was no mention of Arneson D&D. Wonder why?
Honestly I am glad. It's one setting and product line they won't be screwing up.

I posted supporting OD&D 1974 version which is mentioned in a couple of questions. Any chance you would be willing to post your response here? Maybe we could use it as a template for inspiration.

I didn't copy paste it and you can't go back to it. I just told them the kind of things that I am interested in and support for DIY and OD&D(not splat books), also asked them to take the 100's or 1000's of games to which they own the IP and to release them on PDF and POD. And a dozen other things.

I finally took the survey. I'd be really happy if they released a stripped-down version of 5E. I also praised them for releasing OOP books in PDF. All in all, I'm very happy with the direction WotC is moving in. My only gripe is that the 5E rules are just a smidgen too complex for my taste. An OD&D-style version of 5E would be awesome.

Much like any D&D version, 5E can be as complicated or simple as you, the DM, want to make it.
