When the escorts remain silent, Peng adds with heavy sarcasm, "Oh. It's going that well, is it?""About how you'd expect, for 2am." says one of the escorts. The other yawns and adds, "We don't get much traffic here and when we do it seems like it's always in the middle of the night." "And it seems like we're always the ones having to shift out of the rack to deal with it." grumbles the first. "My heart bleeds," Peng offers, with somewhat-lighter sarcasm. "Look on bright side. A borin' turnout in the middle of the night is still better than comin' out of jump wonderin' if this time a pirate'll be waitin'. That's a real sphincter-tightener, that is."As he speaks, Peng stealthily slides his previously-bared blade back into it's sheath. This sheath is worn hilt-down underneath his shipsuit and is accessed with a hidden slit in said suit, just above his buttocks. Showing his now-empty hands in an expressive shrug, Peng adds: "Speakin' of pirates, got any recommendations as to where a visitor can get . . . certain services . . . without risk of gettin' mugged?"

On the way back to the bridge Raven passes Ha-Penny and observes his surreptitious replacement of his blade out of the corner of her eye as she passes by. What in the world was he up to? Well can't worry about it right now, not the time or place until those system people are off ship. Still I may have to keep an even closer watch on him. Definitely up to something and we don't need any unpleasant surprises.

. . . Raven passes Ha-Penny and observes his surreptitious replacement of his blade out of the corner of her eye . . . Peng catches Raven's eye as she passes and adds a little handflip to the end of the shrug he's giving the escorts, as if to say: Hey. Ya just never know 'bout these small colonies. Whole place might up and go pirate without warnin'.

"Brother Leroy's Bar and Grill is the most outside the line place I'd recommend." says the other guard, "Just don't go alone or let anybody there talk you into leaving with them."
"Yeah, and go armed." the first guard adds nodding.

While chatting with Peng the Commander appears from the Ward Room and waves them to follow her.
She says to Raven and Blackjack as she heads for the airlock, "Welcome again to Elati, enjoy your stay, but remember outside the Company domes and warrens it's a wild planet."

The inspection team leave the ship and Peng locks up behind them. It is a boring wait until you get landing permission, and then the tense ride down...like it always is...but the landing is smooth with the wheels touching down with barely a bounce or roll.
Clear Sails has been assigned B17, a parking spot on the ramp along a long runway. You taxi the ship over and maneuver it inside an 3 meter high berm that surrounds your parking area.
A large vehicle rolls across the tarmac toward your ship. An enclosed gangway is attached to the crawling vehicle, and it butts up to the berm with practiced skill. You can see several figures leap off the crawler, but in their airmasks and coveralls you can't tell one from another as they go to work dogging the gangway, attaching several hoses and cables to your ship, and extending a covering over the ship. You can see the covering expanding as air is pumped inside. You are left in an enclosed hanger with a single opening going out through the gangway that was attached to the berm. The gangway is about 3 meters across and the same high. After completing their work the workers exit the area down the gangway back toward the Terminal Building.
On the bridge you see the effect of these workers efforts as you see power, life support and comm switch over to the local systems. Five minutes after landing there is a ring at your airlock and a voice over your comm.
"We've got you all hooked up Clear Sails. Standard fees are 1,000 credits for the first week and a 100 a day after that. You need to report to Sub-Director Sumerall in the Terminal if you wish to leave port."

Hmm, not getting alerts on this thread anymore... Baltus will just hang out The only alerts I get are notifications to my profile here. I just try to log in at least daily (once under each ID) and check those. I should have been a bit more clear, I had stopped having this thread show up as "new" under participated, it's doing that again now... It's like sometimes Proboards forgets I'm involved in a thread... It also sometimes forgets where I am in a thread, so clicking on "new" just brings me to the first post... I miss the days of news groups where you explicitly subscribed to groups and you had explicit control over what was read/unread...

And with a smile on his face and a song in his heart Gil saunters out to "explore" the Company area, pausing to verify the departure time with Raven. Gil walks through the gangway from the covered berm where the ship is located noting that the air pressure is normal here as is the pressure. The gangway slopes down, clearly going underground. He reaches a large open air lock separating the outside from the Terminal Building. A security guard there says, "Welcome to Elati. Here's your pass. Clip it on your clothing somewhere and make it available to any guards that ask to see it. Remember, the atmosphere outside has too low a pressure and too high a CO2 level for you go survive, so don't leave the Warrens or Domes without a full tank. In fact it's best not to leave the Warrens and Domes anyway." "There are Movers along the green line. You can tell one where you want to go and it will take you there." the guard says, adding, "Your ship's telecoms are connected to our local data net, so you can use your comms to make and receive calls. Any questions?"Gil notices there are several colored lines on the concrete floor. There is a red one that leads back toward the ship, a blue one that leads off to the right, a black one leading straight ahead toward large doors that are 4 meters across and equally high, and the aforementioned green one leading off to the left.

Anyway, you'll get much the same information about eating and more than Gil did because he didn't ask about the colored lines. Blue lines lead to Admin areas; Green lines lead to personnel areas; Red lines lead to the outside, or to ships like yours; and Black lines lead to Maintenance, storage and utility areas. For example, the Blue Line here leads to the Terminal Building where you'd go to greet the Port Director, declare imported items and the like. The Black line leads right there leads to a warehouse where any goods you are delivering or picking up would be stored. The Green line leads in to the Warrens. Make sense, Ma'am?"
"As for where to eat?" the guard smiles, "I'll tell you what I told the first fellow through. Nearest is over in the Terminal Building, but it costs more than other Company Cafeterias.
