The week in Jump Space passed without incident. At hour 169 the sensors indicated emergence was imminent. The crew went to emergence stations. A few minutes later there with a flicker on the sensor screens and a twisting feeling in everyone's gut Clear Sails dropped into the Elati system.
You pick up a steady beep on your radio and a quick scan on the passive sensors shows you are only a couple of hours away from Elait's main world at 1 g.
OOC: You need to turn on your transponder as soon as you enter the system. Your transponder will list your ship's name, the system it jumped in from and other basic information.
You can pick up 4 ship's transponders in the system. Two of the transponders are from ships in orbit around Elait and two are out near a gas giant about 20 hours away at full 1 g boost. The two orbiting Elait are sending that they are System Defense Boats.
"Clear Sails, this is Elait Space Traffic Control. Come in please." crackles the radio.

In his turret, Peng pops an antacid pill . . .
darn jump emergence. It's gotta be all mental, but it sure can make a fellow feel squigley in his gizzard.
. . . then carefully enters the data on the four known bogies into his gunnery plot. Finished, Peng leans back and listens to Raven return the greetings from ETC [Elanti Traffic Control].
I wonder . . . is one of those SDBs Patagonian and the other Romanian? There's supposed to be one naval base from each located here.

[OOC: Are the two ships near the gas giant inbound or outbound?]
Both ships appear to be orbiting the gas giant. Their transponder signals identify them as System Defense Boats. Probably, the local system's patrol out near an out-system refueling point.

Please, have you manifest for cargo and passengers available to facilitate the inspection."A course comes in over the radio and once you look it over it does put your ship into a high orbit above Elait's main world. A few minutes later an SDB heads toward the same orbit.

Baltus comments to anyone hanging out in the lounge that he never quite gets used to that. Lois Cho nods, "Yes, everyone feels it a little. Some can't take it and have to be unconscious upon entry and exit from Jump Space."
"Doesn't bother me at all." Cathy says as she lays down another card on the table where she is playing solitaire, "You notice Ben disappeared into his cabin as soon as the Captain announced emergence was coming soon. Makes him puke."

Peng can look at the transponder data, It will be listed there. So all four bogies are SDBs? Two above the main world and two more above the gas giant?
If so, that implies rather heavy defensive patrols, doesn't it? Because - unless I am much mistaken - SDBs on patrol normally run quiet (e.g. coast without thrust) most of the time, so as to be pretty much invisible to [possibly hostile] ships just dropping into their systems.

While the ship is moving toward orbit, you take an opportunity to review what you know about Elati from the ship's library.
There is a Class B port here, so they can repair most ships and build non-jump ships.
There is also a Naval Base, small and shared by Romanian and Patagonia navies. You know these two are allies, in fact, you would say that Patagonia is a "Client State" of the Romanian Empire.
The population here is low, between 50 and 100 thousand people. Almost all are employed in a planet wide terraforming operation working to reduce the CO2 in the air and raise the pressure. With the gravity as low as it is, 40% standard raising the pressure is going to be quite hard to maintain.
At the moment, you're going to need air tanks and/or a vacc suit to move around outside on the planet's surface.
Several domes have been constructed where food is being grown and there is an underground complex where most of the inhabitants live.
Clear Sails achieves orbit and is joined by the SDB Jazz Dancer a few minutes later as it docks with your ship's air/lock. You are notified by radio that a team lead by Commander Grate is waiting permission to board.
Blackjack Miller, dressed in a clean and pressed uniform is waiting at the air/lock for Raven.

The forward lounge is set up to receive guests. Cyril is in the galley about to finish making tea and cookies. He has no idea what local customs dictate and has decided to play it safe. Coffee in the lounge is fresh, and the spirit locker is open.

Paranoid Peng leans casually against a passageway wall, just within sight of the hatch leading into the ship from the entryway through which the officials will be entering. [OOC: I - the player - am not sure where exactly this is, but Peng would know.]Both Peng's arms are out of sight behind his back . . . where he's holding his unsheathed Blade in a reversed grip up against one forearm. [OOC: Just in case, you understand. ]

The hatch pops open and you see three people inside, a woman in a Patagonian Officer's uniform and a couple of men standing behind her. "Commander Grate." says the woman, "Welcome to Elati. May we board?"

After speaking, Raven for a moment wonders what Ha-Penny is up to, and hopes that he does not run afoul of our visitors. Commander Grate steps over the threshold of the airlock and into the ship, "This is just a perfunctory inspection. It shouldn't take very long."
"Let me look your Manifest over." she takes the papers asking, "I don't suppose you have a pot of coffee on the burner do you?"Grate sits in the lounge and sips coffee and chats pleasantly with you. She asks to speak to Chief Factor Cho and your other passengers asking them if they have anything to declare or if they are intending to remain on Elati or continue with the ship. She also asks Doctor Vargas to sign off on the Medical Certificates for passengers and crew...no communicable diseases, illnesses, etc. She points out that Elati is not a hospitable world outside the Domes and underground Warrens, not yet. You'll need a vacc suit, or at least, masks and air tanks if you leave protected areas. She adds that if you have a few days you might want to visit Dome 6 as it's going to be inflated for the first time day after tomorrow. Seeing the shimmering fabric rise up to the spiderweb framework a thousand meters high in the morning sun is a sight to behold. She notes that you don't have any cargo to deliver in Elati, but asks if you are interested in picking up cargo for your next stop, and mentions Hi Tanaka as a broker to speak to if you are interested. After a few minutes she thanks Cyril for the coffee, Raven and Blackjack for having the Manifest in order and bids them a good day. Meanwhile...the two crewmen that came aboard with Grate wait in the corridor outside the galley. They look bored to Peng who is also in the corridor.

"Elati is a 'company planet' so to speak." Grate says, "Just about everyone works for the terraforming company...Elati Futures...and they keep things safe for their workers. Those who are outside their employ, or who go out there find there is no real government, no real laws. The open areas are where you'll find drugs, gambling, whorehouses and all sorts of vices.
Of course, aboard the bases, in Starport and on company property it's a different story. Standard Patagonian laws apply there. Once across the boundaries, into open areas it's...it's open season.
Personally, I'd stick to the lawful areas and avoid the rest of the habitable areas. There is nothing and no one out there but trouble."

OOC: If you ask them later, you're told that Blackjack doesn't have any cargo to sell here and doesn't think there will be anything worth buying for sale later. Cho has the same reaction. The terraforming companies have a virtual monopoly on imports and the company she works for...Delgado Trading...handles the rest. There is a small Delgado Factory (trading center) on Elati and she'll contact them to see if they have new information on worlds up the main, but she doesn't expect to do any business here.
You'll be here long enough to refuel and then move forward. So, 24 to 48 hours only.
