My character is a Barbarian (if they survive that is) I have a question erisred since the character is a barbarian can the character start at age 14-16 yo, since in such societies training would've began earlier in life in order to survive? From Traveller Characters & Combat Book 1 I won't calculate age until I get an answer to the question, the character mustered out after 3 terms (age would between 26-30 yo). Also I have access to the CT Equipment Library app, some of the equipment is not in the core CT book & Book 4 CotI, is the equipment not covered in those books available? If not, i'll modify my equipment to be compliant. The quote above refers to all characters beginning their pre-game careers the same way - it's pretty much the only way in which CT attempts to balance characters against each other. However, I think that a barbarian (as in a low-tech native) could reasonably start the game with a free level in Survival, reflecting what he learned before starting his "real" pre-game career. NOTE: ISTR an actual Barbarian career path in Citizens of the Imperium (an early supplement for CT). SUGGESTION: I think a Barbarian PC could join the party in the current scene, in the role of taxi driver if a Vehicle skill gets rolled or failing that as a "linkboy" (someone offering to escort the other PCs back to the starport through the dark).

I posted privately to Ebon Hearted Soul about his character and a few suggested modifications to her. I'm waiting to hear back. If I get a thumbs up Emiya Ebonblade will be jumping right in!
Move over to (002C) Back from the Bar to the Clear Sails.
Expect a post there shortly.

I don't even know which game this thread belongs to... The three PCs erisred mentioned above are the only ones who've made much of an appearance in play so far. The rest of the crew are mostly just names, so new players would be totally able to personalize these however they wish. Peng Silva is my PC. He's my avatar pic and he's also detailed in my post signature, with the exception that since play began he's pretty much been a horn dog . . . although this has mostly manifested as internal thoughts rather than overt actions. These thoughts have largely been directed towards Mighty Darci's PC Raven. She seems to be okay with this. The player that is, not the PC; Raven routinely shuts Peng down hard, which has yet to dissuade him to any perceptible degree. Speaking of thoughts Peng Silva seems to have completely missed the Raven started treating him with more respect after he disclosed that he was a veteran, but with his non-response she is gradually slipping back into her former disrespect.

From the action thread . . . disable night vision devices in use. [OOC: Only first-gen devices. More advanced ones will have glare compensation, for just this reason.] OCC: Yes Peng is one of those players who can't resist making suggestions to the DM about how to mess up the party. My dad would always act on those suggestions and the player in question always bore the brunt of their own suggestions.

Now, now. Peng is trying his [lazy, low-achieving] best. His military experience educated him to the fact that hard-chargers generally get themselves [and others] killed fairly quickly. Peng would much rather do the minimum necessary and thus enjoy himself longer. Oh! Do you mean behave himself when it comes to women? Well, he sorta always has. He *thinks* about being naughty, but seldom ever actually is. Which - come to think of it - is another example of his basically lazy nature.

Just thought I would mention that I bought the pdf/paperback combo of Cepheus Engine last week via DriveThruRPG and got the paperback in the mail Thursday. I'm still reading it, but it seems to be a good rationalized version of the several editions of Traveller. There are only three things I found peculiar so far:
1)Difficulties Versus Circumstances - At first I was wondering, "Why both?" Then I realized it's the only way you can apply an *odd*-numbered penalty/bonus to a die roll. 2)"Cepheus Engine Compatible:" The cover has this little tag on both front and back, likely for brand consistency. But as this is the "Core Rules" it struck me as strange. 3)No Alternative Maneuver Drives: Page 97 describes alternative FTL drives and power plants (BTW I think fission plants should be even bulkier but very cheap), but says not one word about maneuver drives. In fact, the book makes no attempt at all to describe how the "M-Drive" supposedly works, being just like the very earliest version of the rules in that way. I suppose this is something Moon Toad Publishing leaves for their ship construction expansion.

(Yes, I accidentallilly peeked in this thread again even though I'm not playing this game, and couldn't resist a smart-alecky remark. Just because I commented above, wondering what this thread was, he system now thinks I should be notified every time this thread gets a new comment.. Couldn't see on my phone that it's under "Traveller Thingamajig." Darned 1977 Model 1 Traveller computers anyway.

Speaking of stabbing one's self in the back . . . It just occurred to me that our merry little band has no way to tell that our newest member is on OUR side, once he arrives on the scene. Perhaps it might be best if his introduction involves the Air/raft Dudes immediately taking him under fire?

I exist to serve, your Mightiness! Seriously, though. If he just pops up out of nowhere, we might well unload on him ourselves. How would we know he intends to be on our side? Given all the gunfire and the fact we're all wearing filter masks, we're very unlikely to hear him if he tries to shout out "Don't shoot! I'm friendly!" (or believe him even if he does shout something along those lines).

Oh no, Emiya pushes a button on the damaged air-raft, it then lifts up and moves towards the crew before crashing directly on Peng - oops!

Hey Eris,
Are you in the path of Florence? If so, it's time to batten down the hatches!
Be safe.

Sorry if I am holding up the show, I have been tied up for the past week or so.

Yeah, anyone who is in harms way, take care of yourselves and let us know you are alright when you can. Sorry if I am holding up the show, I have been tied up for the past week or so. No problem, Mighty Darci. Real life always comes first. As for the path of Florence, the only thing we're liable to get around here (on the far side of the Appalachian Mountains from it's landfall) is some rain and some evacuees. I've had several such people call about getting rooms at the hotel, but I've actually advised them to stop in Cherokee or Asheville, on the eastern side of the mountains. That should be quite far enough to escape the storm (except - as here - for some extra rain) and they'll likely have lower room rates. The rates are high here not because of the hurricane, but because they're always high this weekend every year. We're hosting the annual Grand Fall Rod Run, the second-largest classic car show in the country, after the Concours show in Florida. A regular room at my property (assuming they have any left) is $110 tonight, $150 on Friday and Saturday.

Got a copy of the Uprising: The Dystopian Universe a few days ago from backing it on Kickstarter.
Then I had time to watch the news tonight and thought, "What? It's already happening? How did I miss the memo?"
A truly bizarre facepalm moment...

Not sure what you saw in the news that was particularly relevant, but a google search including the date of 9/14/18 turned up this: Signs We Are Living In A Dystopia
I especially applaud Sign Number 1 - bureaucracy on steroids!
