Re: "Earth's Preferred"
I'm about halfway through listening to "Galaxy Outlaws: The Complete Black Ocean Missions" by J.S. Morin (~80 hours total). In Morin's setting, "Earth's Preferred" is a bland, bottom-rate beer manufactured exclusively for export from humanity's homeworld, with sales strictly dependent upon popularity among homesick expatriate posiers. Very few people actually born on Earth have ever tasted it . . . and if they did would probably spit it out with alacrity and vociferous imprecations against their relevant patron deity for allowing them to imbibe it. But apparently the taste grows upon you and the price is certainly right.

No worries! Real life ALWAYS takes precendence. And even when one has the time, the energy [e.g. creative juices] may be at low ebb.

Re: Food Processor I imagine this as a 3D printer, except for food. You load it with basic components (proteins, carbs, minerals, etc) and then it combines these in various ways to produce an edible end product. There are already crude versions of these in real world use. Of course, Aslan probably find the "meat" products thus created less than fully satisfactory. But then it's not like the "Clear Sails" is a luxury yacht, with freeze lockers full of slabs of real beef or pens of live goats.

Just a note:
Peng is going to chew and swallow a couple of bites, then - if nobody's said anything by that time - he'll venture a question or comment.

While I'm fine with just meandering along, I'm wondering if anyone's heard anything from our esteemed GM? It's coming up on two weeks since his last post here.

You buy basic components as part of "Life Support" and use the ship's Food Processor to make food items. There are programs for varieties of foods, and a "talented" programmer/operator can produce foods with enhanced flavor/aroma. High Passengers get higher quality foods, including "real" meat and vegetables, at least, some of the time. As a backup, you'd also buy ReadiMeals (basically MRE's) for emergency use. These aren't bad, but they aren't great either, so really are mostly for emergency use. Many spices and some drinks (Kaff, Coffee, Teas, etc) are considered extra hard to synthesize. These items are generally stocked rather than made aboard ship.

Just wondering: What day/time is it, in-game? I ask, because the formerly-seriously-wounded Blackjack is now awake and walking around under his own power, yet (unless I've missed something) it's only been an hour or so since the ambush. That's one really impressive autodoc!

That's one really impressive autodoc! It's actually the evening of the next day. Y'all got back from the "ambush" yesterday evening and Blackjack went into the Autodoc. The next morning Gil went looking for crew and news. That afternoon there was the second dust up at Leroy's and then y'all gathered back at the ship. So, it's been a good 24 hours since Blackjack was stuffed into the hardware. Yeah, that's fast, but maybe he's a *really* quick healer. And yeah, Emilia has been cooling her heels on the ship waiting to get hired for at least one sleep cycle, but maybe she just likes y'all and being good hosts, you can't just toss her overboard.

Oy, another distraction. In addition to painting a couple of hundred Ogre/GEV minis, I just got notified that the reissue of The Fantasy Trip will be here next month. <sigh>

Or maybe she's just freeloading off some nice strangers, since there aren't any better prospects in port just now.

I didn't have Peng put in his two centicreds because - after his uncharacteristic burst of [reluctant as it was] helpfulness - he has sagged back into his habitual Laziness.

I am back. The cord for my lap top died & I have yet to get a new one. Been busy so I haven't been able to login when I've gotten to the library. I'll try to post twice to three times a week if I can. I'll catch up on posts & reply asap.

No worries. Not sure what sort of cord it was that died, but I remember driving several miles with my laptop's power cord (unbeknownest to me) hanging outside my car, dragging on the pavement. I had to buy a generic replacement and I'm pretty sure said expedient contributed to the eventual demise of said device. I'm willing to contribute funds via Paypal for a new cord, if that would be acceptable.

Definition of a tragedy:
Being in Hawaii with the family on Spring Break and having to work 8AM - 8PM every day of it. :-(

I get to see the ocean in the evening through the window of my hotel room.... :-P

Is there anything else we need to cover before we jump? Not that I'm aware of. NOTE: Peng has made certain that the ship is fully stocked with beer prior to liftoff.

I'm back, please don't let me hold up things, if I don't chime in in a reasonable time it is OK if the SM (Space Master) moves the game along.

I have lost track, how many players are there in this game? If we are all active now, then we erisred looks in maybe we can get back on a regular schedule somewhat.
