Created using Supplement 4 + Eris' home rule for scientists. I might be a bit rusty with CT, let me know if all adds up below.
UPP: 6A78A6 (...on third try)
Enlists as Doctor (Suppl 4): 6+3=9, OK
Term 1 (18-22) Survival: automatic (3+, DM+2 for Int) Automatic skill: Medical-1 Service Skill Table: Blade Combat (Dagger)-1 Adv.Edu Table2: Medical-2 Reenlist: 5, OK.
Term 2 (22-26) Survival: automatic. Adv.Edu Table1: Medical-3 (yooohoo)
Decides not to reenlist, joins Scientists instead (I am thinking that first term was essentially Medical school, the second was practice at a hospital)
Enlists as Scientist (Suppl 4): 7+2=9, OK. Specialty: Chemistry (??)
Term 3 (26-30) Survival: 4+2=6, OK. Automatic skill: Computer-1 Adv.Edu Table1: Gravitics-1 Service skill table: Gun Combat-1 (Auto Pistol) Reenlist: 8, OK.
Term 4 (30-34) Survival: 8+2=10, OK. Adv.Edu Table1: Electronics-1 Reenlist: 6, OK. Aging: Str -1 (5, fail), Dex (8, pass), End -1 (3, fail)... urg. New UPP: 5A68A6
Term 5 (34-38) Survival: 6+2=8, OK. Adv.Edu Table1: Computer-2 Aging: Str (9, pass), Dex -1 (2, fail), End -1 (7, fail)... urg. New UPP: 5958A6... the writing is on the wall.
Decides not to reenlist.
Mustering out: 2 rolls as Doctor: 30,000 Cr, Weapon (Auto Pistol) 3 rolls as Scientist: Low Passage, Gun (skill Auto Pistol-2), +1 Soc (was really hoping for the Lab Ship :-p )
Doctor Wade Vargas, 5958A7, 38, 2 Terms Medical Doctor, 3 Terms Scientist (Chemistry) Medical-3, Chemistry-3, Computer-2, Gravitics-1, Electronics-1, Auto Pistol-2, Dagger-1
Probably Grav Vehicle-0?
I put down Chemistry as his specialty, but I can change it if a different one fits the game better.

I might be a bit rusty with CT, let me know if all adds up below. <big snip> I put down Chemistry as his specialty, but I can change it if a different one fits the game better. I think Doctor Vargas looks good. He will make a good Ship's Doctor who is travelling partly to expand his knowledge of Chemistry. Computer-2 means he is good at programming computers, that's always handy. With Edu+2, he has a good broad knowledge of all the other sciences and research methods they use. There is good chance he knows something about any subject and even if he doesn't he knows where to look to find out about it. His Int+1 means he isn't as creative as when it comes to fields away from Chemistry. Given time and research he could still solve some Difficult problems in any scientific field. Yes, Grav Vehicle-0 is fine as a background skill, plus he has a Low Passage to keep or sell. So, here's what I see... Doctor Wade Vargas, 5958A7, 38, 2 Terms Medical Doctor, 3 Terms Scientist (Chemistry) Medical-3, Chemistry-3, Computer-2, Gravitics-1, Electronics-1, Grav Vehicle-0, Auto Pistol-2, Dagger-1. Low Passage.... If you are happy with him, I'll put him in the Cast of Characters.

Low Passage.... If you are happy with him, I'll put him in the Cast of Characters. I am happy with that, except that I forgot to include his 30,000 Cr from mustering out in the summary, plus he actually owns an Auto Pistol as per M.O. Assuming funds play any role in your game (I often stripped PCs of their funds in my FTF games within the first session... they learned fast to generate adventurers who actually needed to go adventuring). If they play a role, Wade will probably spend a small part in equipment (buy a dagger!) and have the rest stashed away in a Bank or several, for a rainy day. (Sorry, I've been thinking way too much about pension systems in the last months)

(Sorry, I've been thinking way too much about pension systems in the last months) Having retired, not too long ago, I also think about pension systems a good bit. Over here, I'm just hoping my State pension doesn't get pissed away by the legislature and that Medicare/Social Security doesn't get NERFED by the current powers that be in Washington. I'll add the cash and pistol to Wade's stats and post him. Yes, I have been known to remove a PC's and/or party's cash. Over in the Akus Moby game, the PC's inherited a ship and got a big payout from the discovery of an Ancients site they recently made. The ship, of course, needed (1) a new computer (the computer was completely missing, had been stripped out), (2) all new computer programs (also gone), (3) an upgraded security system, and after their first jump new fuel pumps and piping for the jump drive. If it hadn't be for the sale of the drugs they had found they would be broke. Well, if they want their ship to be able to *use* that fancy...stolen...J3 drive they now have they are going to need *another* computer, more programs, and who knows, maybe those fuel pumps they spent millions on are going to have to be replaced as well.

I noticed other players buying gear...
Not something I usually pay attention to, and I suspect this is something I'll delay for ages. Wade should have a dagger or two, already has his auto pistol, and I trust that he does not need his own medical equipment since the ship will have enough (right?). Other than that, Eris, can you just decide what is reasonable for him to have in your game (some basic armor, perchance, a communicator, and a portable computer?) and subtract the cost from his funds? Give him a few thousands of cash, and put half the rest in a savings account somewhere back home, and the other half in an solid interplanetary bank's high-yield fund.

Okay, a couple of daggers, some basic armor, a comm and a computer. Yes, medical equipment is aboard, but there will need to be more...probably with ship funds....and so on. Eris
