Let's do it then!

If we go with the specs coffee quoted, here are the choices I see. 1) Limp back to the ship in the injured grav car and see if Marci can fix it (Mechanical). If not, you would not have that expensive a part onboard and would have to replace it at a major city or starport. Then, set out on foot 2) Limp back to the ship in the injured grav car and see if Marci can fix it (Mechanical). If she can, decide whether to try again ort walk. 3) Leave the grav car here, climb down, contnue on foot 4) Free the grav car and keep going in the grav car 5) something else I didn't cover

Option 1 or 2

Why don't we go with option 2! If I am not able to fix it, then that decides the matter and if I can fix it, then lets simplify things and draw straws, short straw makes the decision.

Option 2, option 1 if repair is unsuccessful.

I'd go with 4. The grav car still works; it just has its load reduced from 4 tons to 3 tons. (We hardly constitute 3 tons...)
I'll just drive slower, is all. Nowhere near a jogging pace; a walk is good enough. The purpose of the vehicle is not to go fast, but to get there without being entirely worn out by the trip (in this heat).

OK, you have the experience with the air/raft. Let's go with 4 then, if you are confident with it. Everyone else, what say Ye!

I have been hinting at it, so now I will come out and say it. I don't think you can maneuver your air/raft though the jungle, but you are welcome to try if you wish. From a previous post...if you want to continue...just saying

From a previous post...if you want to continue...just saying From the photo, it looked like maybe cave 4 was a bit more open, looks like there isn't a good way to get there by air, so I don't think the air/raft is going to be of much help.

From a previous post...if you want to continue...just saying OOC: Can I just say: If you want to say something, say it. Hints don't work in an online setting. We have none of the cues we'd get in a face-to-face situation. (And, let's face it: Some of us wouldn't get hints then, either.) (He said, from experience...) Okay, fine. We take the air/raft back to the ship and then walk (trudge, really) back to where we can get to a ground level cave. (Even someone at the peak of physical condition wouldn't be able to climb to one in this heat, after that walk.) Then we rest for at least an hour, before we even try to go into the cave.

Remember we do have these suits: We're in the conditions it's designed to assist with. Yes, it will limit us in some ways, but not slogging through the jungle. Climbing would be limited, but I don't think we're climbing up to a cave that requires more than a scramble anyway.

coffee is right - I should be a neutral arbiter, and not tell you what to do. I may think it is crazy to fly through a jungle, but you may not. It is not my business to tell you otherwise. It is the business of the other players to go along with it, or try to convince you otherwise

It is the business of the other players to go along with it, or try to convince you otherwise It may be crazy; it may not. What I need from you as referee is to tell me if it is obviously impossible. That's the kind of thing I'm looking for. Also, consider: If we can walk through the jungle, we should be able to fly at a higher altitude (and by fly I mean hover and advance through whatever space is available, not just blast through like we're in Star Wars or something). Trees are thicker at the base than above, so there should be more elbow room (so to speak) higher up. At least, that's the way it appeared to me. But as referee, you know more of the situation than I do. If I look up and see the entire sky virtually filled with leaves, branches, vines, etc. , then I should be able to tell that we can't get through. (At least, without fitting a chainsaw to the front of the floater...)

Yeah, I guess I was like you - not sure, so I decided to just roll some dice
|
|
|
Post by makofan on Mar 21, 2017 13:54:42 GMT -5
So, if you want to risk rolling more dice with a -DM due to damage, you would probably need two more successes to carry on and get there. Flying back I would make you do a driving roll, but no -DM due to you having already taken the route

Flying back is probably our best bet. That way, we're not running into more trees, nor are we leaving the air/raft out where something can do it further mischief.

Flying back is accomplished easily (Die roll 9)
Marci checks, and it definitely needs a replacement that they don't currently have in stock. Does she want to try fixing it inventively with a mechanical roll?

OK, let me take a look at this grav unit and see if I can get it working again.

DM: Roll is 7, +1 Mechanical skill = 8 success
Marci spends some time examining the air/raft, and finds that a bent part created a short. She manages to straighten it out, and the air/raft is fully operational again

We could try one of the nearest caves yet today, or call it a day and plan out an early start tomorrow morning.

Fresh in the morning sounds good. If the caves aren't realistically approachable by air, on foot we go.
