See the first post in the thread "Wretched" Characters over at the ODD74 forum. I think that it would be a fun topic to develop rather than just admire.

Damaged Goods is a dud entry. I am highly suspicious of anything which takes a first level character and dumps ADVENTURE in their past rather than their future. I am also highly suspicious of the random factor involved. If I were to use it - and I wouldn't - I'd flat out start the character at second level.
The overall concept is good though. I do something similar. The "no bonuses, some penalties" characters on Titan become Goblin PCs, and that's the only way to get a Goblin. I nicked a bunch of 'feats' and deformities from Pathfinder of all places (say what you like about that awful convoluted machine of a system, it has a wonderful treatment for Goblins) to compensate for the Goblin character's mechanical inadequacy. The little gits replace Halflings, who have no place on a world that's not Middle-Earth, and they are most assuredly Wretched by default.

I don't like everything on the list, but that is not required to take it and use ideas that it generates.

Yes - lots of ideas; I must steal some of them soon. It was always fun to roll an Intelligence of 3, then a very high roll in almost anything else. The backstory would almost write itself.

Dustin Hoffman says much the same.

Dustin Hoffman says much the same. You hang out and game with Dustin Hoffman? Not since his appearance in "Noontime Cherokee."

It's the flip side of the hit 45, "Midnight Cowboy."

Bumping this. The link in the OP still works. I also like some, not all, of the ideas. Worth kicking around, maybe.
