You don't roll for the second 4 years until 4 years of game time have elapsed I wasn't clear on that from the way it is worded, seems obvious now that you said it. The other questions I had were the TL 8 Heat Suit - not sure of the price?? Question for makofan , does the Scout Ship have the Triple Turret and the Missile Rack or do we need to buy one or both?

What else needs to happen so we can get started? Does anyone need to buy something, but does not have the funds? What do you need?

If we are down Lui Wu for the moment, I suggest we resolve the Adele or Larissa decision by taking both. Larissa gets us an Engineer, Streetwise, and Admin, and Adele gets us Bribery, Streetwise, and Steward.

I'm getting close to buying my equipment, but real life keeps asserting itself...

You have four staterooms. You have two men and 3 women. I suggest Lui Wu and Sir John Corrigan share, Marci and Abigail share, and Lady Leroux and her maid share, with one stateroom vacant, but I will leave it up to you

I'll throw in the Heat Suit, and you have 3x missile plus turret already installed

I believe missiles cost 5000 CR each. How many do you have?

With brumbar away for two weeks, and JMiskimen not knowing if he can contribute, we will assume a trio of coffee , Mighty Darci and ffilz for decison making. I am making the executive decision that you are taking Adele Where do you want to go first? Once I know that, we can start

I believe missiles cost 50 000 CR each. How many do you have? Don't you mean 5,000 CR? What cash do we have remaining for operating expenses and missiles folks? Marie has 23,000 CR Adele could contribute about 30,000 CR to ship expenses. The TL 8 Heatsuit is 300 CR.

Adele will purchase similar equipment as Marie without the ship gear and with appropriate weapons. Will get actual purchases in the next day or two

I'm getting close to buying my equipment, but real life keeps asserting itself... Hi coffee ! The real life stuff has a tendency to do that. Hang in there! You too, makofan , I see you got bit by the same bug! You have four staterooms. You have two men and 3 women. I suggest Lui Wu and Sir John Corrigan share, Marci and Abigail share, and Lady Leroux and her maid share, with one stateroom vacant, but I will leave it up to you It is fine with me if Marci and Abigail share a room. Per the COREWARD GROUP Reference Thread it was 5 people @4000/4 weeks = 20 000 CR, but we have 6 people total so it would be 6 people @4000/4 weeks = 24 000 CR for maintenance costs, plus the missiles that we buy. Marci, can kick in 50,000 CR, more if really needed. How many missiles should we buy? Is there anything else the group as a whole needs? ffilz and coffee , any suggestions about where to go first? The three nearest planets all have gas giants and large bodies of water, two water worlds - one heavily populated, and one jungle planet.

Did purchases for Adele. She did not purchase any of the survival gear.
As to where to go, do we have any rumors here? Any patrons?
Otherwise, I'd say perhaps we should also purchase some diving gear and maybe check out one of the water worlds. Purchase gear here where we have better tech.

Each of these worlds seems already settled. That flies in the face of exploration, seems to me.
But hey, if that's what we have, we might as well make the most of it. A jungle world sounds better to me than a water world, because the strange things that lurk in the jungle would be easier to discover/recover than the strange things that lurk under the waves.
For our first expedition, anyway.
Otherwise, I'd say lowest population/lowest tech level, because that way we'll be left alone the most.

I can generate patrons and rumors if you like? Overlapped my post, so I missed it. Patrons are indeed the key to a Traveller adventure. I wouldn't say no to the possibility of patron.

Here is the way I look at it: Most of these worlds are under-settled. Spend some time reading the entries for each planet (library data!). 0202 Miscatoon has a population of 3000.
That is what you call a tenuous foothold. Who says that the MISC corporation owns the planet? It is free for the taking/exploitation/exploration
Can you ingratiate yourself with the scouts at 0107 Wayaway? This could become a secondary pirate base if you played the cards right. Maybe you can make something of the Rhadamanthus hellhole. Brodyr has some potentiial...

When I get off work tonight I'll send each character a background briefing or a rumor. Then you can discuss your situation, and see if you still need a patron

Possible Primary Destinations, 0202 Miscatoon looks promising. There may also be something that we can trade for between the Kalamari or Aquaria and Miscatoon in both directions.Possible Future Destination, places with unrest usually have opportunities of one kind or another.

What is reachable from where and so forth.

Het darci, take a look at the map of the subsector. Each hex is jump-1, so your scout can jump 2 hexes per week

And if we had a ship that could do jump-5 then we could go from 0305 Brodyr directly to 0408 Vandor, is that correct?

That is correct. And you only need jump-4 from Brodyr to Vandor

With Traveller worldgen, there is rarely an unsettled planet (1 in 36), but there are plenty of low tech planets and low population ones too. Think of exploration not as exploring never settled areas, or not even never visited (otherwise there would not be starports on worlds less than TL 9). Rather a sub-sector is not well travelled and doesn't have significant regular trade with more settled areas. Now we are a ship with PCs FROM this sub-sector rather than cruising out from some empire, but what we have to look at is still much the same. Penzance does have some contact with nearby worlds, but I suspect even the nearby worlds are not fully known and there is sure to be opportunities for discovery even there.

Okay, I'm looking at Miscatoon. Low population, plenty of scope for exploration. And the atmosphere isn't actively trying to kill us!
Sounds like our best plan, at the moment.
And a Class B starport is nothing to sneer at.
