I've been needing to get this basic information out of my head so I can do a more detailed write up of this information. I'm fascinated with religion and the practices of the various real-world faiths. I use that interest in my games so it would be a natural fit for this campaign world. Draft information below.
Cults, Sects, and Other Faiths
Introductory text goes here...
Church of the One God: Revering a single deity known as xxx, the Church of the One God rose to prominence in the last 50 years. Offering a path to paradise that was open to all of its’ members, the Church of the One God experienced unseen rapid growth by promoting their position of “One God and One Faith for All.”. Over the years, division and differences would begin to cause groups to splinter off. Enough of these groups have established their own churches that the Church of the One God has become known as “The Fractured Faith”. The main church is still the largest of these divisions, but others have gained some widespread acceptance and will be mentioned below.
**I need to add splinter groups here. Just a line or two.**
Cult of Grax: Worshiping and advancing the goals of the world snake Grax, the Cult of Grax has seen a resurgence in recent years. Rumors speak of a far-reaching network of cult groups operating in all corners of the world pulling the strings behind many political actions, practicing a form of evil magic that is focused on snake venom and mystical powers. The truth of the matter is the Cult of Grax has been operating in secret for many years and had dwindled to almost being nonexistent but has started to gain traction once again. Dedicated to bringing about the rule of Grax on the world of Toldara, these cultists do operate behind the scenes in several of the larger cities competing for control with other political groups. Although they do not operate in such a manner to bring widespread attention to their group, there is talk of one city “to the East” that houses a large temple and the cult practices out in the open because they run this area.
Disciples of the Drake: The only details known about this faith with any certainty is that they worship Dragons and are one of the most ancient forms of religion found among the people of Toldara. Any more information about the Disciples of the Drake should be considered as nothing but rumors.
Witch Cults: The term “witch cult” does not refer to any single faith but is a label attached to just about any clandestine group that is discovered from time to time. They may be in the woods practicing an established faith in a more primitive and natural setting rather than a man-made building. The label is often used to generate fear and panic where it may not be necessary at all.
Non-human faiths: Not much is known or understood about the various faiths practiced by non-human races. The information that is passed around is nothing more than rumor and conjecture. There may be some humans that practice these faiths but it certainly is not a large number.
Other faiths: In addition to the groups mentioned above, humans have many other faiths in their quest for the divine. These groups have smaller numbers of practitioners and most are regional at the largest. Some of the smallest groups may, in fact, be just a local practice among a very small number of people like a family.
