Zembabwei The Munhumutapa Empire. The name comes from Great Zimbabwe, a ruined fortified town in Rhodesia, first built around the 11th century and used as the capital of the Munhumutapa Empire. Oddly, this is the same root as the modern name for the Republic of Zimbabwe. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyborian_Age#Etymology

The Empire has firm control over the city of Zimbabwe and most of the plains, but marauding bands and the independently minded mountain tribes in the east constantly challenge its authority. The most important trading streets are controlled by the Empires Ranger & Postal Service, and thus ensure trade and commerce.

Traditional Zimbabwe garb:
Notice the clubs (ceremonial?), and shield. Also, it looks like one of them is wearing a leopard skin. It's possible that Leopard Cultists are active in Zimbabwe. (Leopard Cultist is a prestige class in NYAMBE).

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Zimbabwe (pg. 183 - 184) Great Zimbabwe has a circular central stronghold composed of unmortared granite-block walls and towers. Iron tools and weapons are in common use here. Directly eastward is the Sakalava Penninsula, with a broad and deep valley between it and the rest of Afrik. It has a mountainous interior and swampy plains and rainforest on its coasts. Due to its isolated nature, many strange creatures such as the elephant bird, dodo, giant tortoise, lemurs, and pygmy hippopotamus dwell here. The native folk of this peninsula exist within a social caste system consisting of andriana (nobles), hovas (middle-class) and andevo (slaves).
