I'd like to take a moment that everything here in the Aerth forum is not necessarily canon, and, often not.
That said, I think I've gone ahead with the decision to halve (1/2) the given population figures in Epic of Aerth by Gary Gygax.
One of the reasons for this is to make more room for the non-human races. Human civilization is something that is sometimes hard-won, and, many lands have their Borderlands, places of mountain, places of forest, which are the home of the non-human realms. Orcs need a home, too. :orc: (Though, in lejend, the orcs were given the most inhospitable && barren places of the world, in which to live).
Please note that the fey races/monsters still do live in Faerie, primarily. This includes the elves, of all kinds.
Another consideration is that Aerth tends to be more deadly than the Earth of our history, if that can be imagined. Being a farmer is not easy on some days, with things like orc raids and the ever-present danger of ankhegs in the lands of the fertile soil. (Yes, I spelled anhkheg wrong, sorry!). In theory, there is a tendency towards armed militancy amongst the human race, not only against one another, but also towards the ever-threatening monsters that make the world, Aerth, their home.
There are more monsters than humans.
I think this sums things up.
