Have you used The Arduin Grimoire and /or The Arduin Trilogy and if so to what extent? I have used it as a part of an OD&D game and I have used small parts of it in a game.

Back in the day, we used various bits and pieces from Arduin, though mostly I ended up moving away from it except for a few creatures and magic items.
At some point, I will probably pull some bits from it for my Wilderlands campaign.

I flip through the ARDUIN TRILOGY for inspiration, but can't think of a single rule that actually made it to my game table.

Arduin/OD&D pretty much the same thing to me. It's like an alternate universe OD&D.

So I see online this thing costs $50.
Is it really worth $50?
Right now, for me, that is a significant investment in my otherwise reasonably priced hobby.

That depends, is there a place in your gaming heart that loves full-tilt gonzo no censorship of ideas toss it up against the wall and see what sticks weird, wild and crazy? I would describe Dave Hargrave's Arduin Grimoire as Blackmoor on suped-up steriods. So if you love the First Fantasy Campaign and especially all of the gonzo elements then you would likely like Arduin. I find the first volume to be a mass of tiny print - hard to read tables and wild ideas, quite inspiring.

I think the last time I used it - and heavily then - was 1981. It was the best way to turn D&D or AD&D into something of the spirit of Tunnels & Trolls. Or Monty Python and the Three Stooges, which really should have been a movie.

I use a variety of Arduin material in my AD&D campaign. We draw from The Arduin Trilogy (and original Volumes I-III), The Lost Grimoire (Vol. IV), & Dark Dreams (Vol. V). Races, the Witch Hunter, the cultural background to the druid class, and spells are all in play right now.

Used the races but that's about it...oh and some of the monsters! Dag, but aren't Hargrave's monsters burly? I have yet to spring one of those suckers on the PCs. Then again, we are only seven sessions into the Arduin campaign. I am curious, Ronin84, how you introduced the Arduin monsters in your game. Underworld, wilderness, straightaway versus low-level parties? That sort of thing.

I never used it but I had been tempted to buy The Complete Arduin years ago from a local shop but never followed through on it.

I've tried several times to run an Arduin game, but it always flopped in the past. I plan to try again with a more D&D based approach (which is what I feel I was missing mechanically, and then I would like to try The Complete Arduin).
