Has anyone checked or even backed the Shadowdark kickstarter? It looks very promising, and even if not using the rules as is themselves it seems great for salvaging for houserules, random tables and making a portion of the 5E and other 'modern' D&D player groups more acquainted with the od&d playstyle and maybe even more likely to try "true od&d".

I really would like to, but I just can't do it. What is not to like!

As of this moment
Every time I see something like this, I say to myself, "That is all money WotC left on the table due to lack of understanding the TTRPG fan old school fan base."
There goal was $10,000 and they blew past that in the first 12 minutes. They still have 25 days to go. There is a very good chance that over the next 10 years somebody will become the new big dog in the TTRPG realm. I have no idea who, but things are going to change.

WotC could be making off of the old school crowd, but they don't get it at all. I would definitely like to see that happen. We know it can be done. They've faced major challenges from Vampire: the Masquerade and Pathfinder in the past. It should get interesting after the release of D&D 6E.

I backed the Shadowdark Kickstarter on day 1. I have followed the creator, Kelsey Dionne, for several years. She is a well-known "3rd party" author of 5e adventures (one of the top sellers on DMsGuild). I have used several of her adventures in 5e over the years and they have been great. You can find some reviews of her 5e material on Bryce Lynch's tenfootpole.org site. Bryce has reviewed 4 of her adventures since 2020, and all 4 have been given "THE BEST" which is his highest rating. tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?s=kelseyShe released a beta version of Shadowdark and a zine/dungeon last year, which I have from her website. She is a regular at GaryCon, having grown up in Southern Wisconsin near Lake Geneva and has played D&D since the 2e era with some heavy hitters from the TSR scene. Her pedigree is legitimate and she really, REALLY understands how to RPG. She has been working on Shadowdark for a few years, running it at GaryCon and elsewhere, using an "open table" approach with unscheduled games, drop-in, drop-out style. This Kickstarter campaign is a HUGE deal. It is possibly going to cross $1M (currently at $730K). I'm happy to field any questions if I can since I am somewhat familiar with the author and her game system. Cheers! Nick

Thanks multiarms for the additional info! With 22 days to go, passing the $1M mark is almost certain to happen.

37 hours to go, $1.1 million +. I don't need it, but I am a bit bummed I can't even back at the pdf level. Oh well, if I had money I would be backing more things than I could ever read.

If we all lived close together we could do a youtube series of old school gaming. There are a variety of meeting apps which I'm sure you're aware of that would work for this purpose. Not sure what my wife uses for the comicon board meetups but that's what they do. Or even a podcast app. I participate din one for the con about oldschool DMing. Pretty entertaining to participate in. I just don't have the tech chops to facilitate something like that.

Looks neat, I keep seeing it cross my FB feed. Semi-Retired Gamer already got me with the Talislanta KS and I'm not a 5E fan. I have been getting the 5E homages to oldschool modules because I love those modules and the Goodman Games offerings have some great essays and interview. Not saying I won't buy more games but I have a vast amalgamation as it is so I have to be selective.

I have never been able to get sound with Discord or Zoom or Roll20. Several very tech savvy people have looked at it and could not figure out why it doesn't work for me either.
