Which do you prefer, short stories, novellas, novels or really long novels?

I tend to prefer short stories myself. Robert E Howard did a lot of short stories and I loved that because of the way to tell a lot in a short time.

I like them all, but I voted for Long Novels, I love those 1000+ page behemoths.

I can read any length of story, but I very much prefer works of around 1,000 or more pages in length. The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson is one of my current favorites. I have the 3rd book and the 4th book is out. There are 10 planned volumes. I need to get caught up!

I voted novels. I do like long novels but I like books and the long ones are just so darned big and heavy. Actually I prefer trilogies and longer offerings such as Steven Erickson's Books of the Malazan and the various series by Gene Wolfe and Glen Cook.

I have the first novel in The Book of Malazan and I have yet to read it. I have no idea why I haven't started it yet. It sounds very interesting. Do you have any insights?

There are a lot of books between Steven and his co-conspirator Ian Esselmont, assuming you want the full ride. Lots of characters and lots of bouncing from past to present. Supposedly the stories began from Their AD&D/GURPs adventures of many years ago. Also be prepared for epic level stories as many of the characters end up ascending to demi/godhood and said epic individuals are just as human and fallible as the mortals.
