In a nutshell ...
The dark goddess, Glazya and her servants, The Black Hands, infiltrated the highest ranks of The Church of Northwind. This act did not go unnoticed by the Archmagi of Mageholm, the inter-dimensional Astral Guild of Magic. The Master of the Guild, Zocchi the Euclidean, organized a scheme among his brethren to thwart the Hellspawn cult - not through direct confrontation, which would cost many their lives; but through transporting the very City State, sans the corrupted church and it's demonic clergy, through dimensional space to a safer location. However, unexpected effects were unleashed through the weaving of such vastly powerful magicks. Locations strongly tied to the City-state were also pulled into the new reality regardless of cosmic alignment. Thus, Corpsewatch, Stonehell, and a multitude of creatures and monsters were also pulled into the unsuspecting Known World of Mystara.
This also had a further reality warping shift on Mystara itself through the reappearance of The Kingdom of Nithia, and a peculiar relocation of a variety of Oriental cultures on the mainland of Brun - all now dominated by the Ethengar Khanate. The Traldar people rebel against the Thyatian Empire in Karameikos, the otherworldly Alphatians contend against Nithian necromancy, as Glantrian Princes fend off the Ethengari Horde.
Few outside Mageholm's highest echelons are aware of this event, living their lives as they always have; though now intertwined with their new reality's history and geography. Nearly everything documented in Northwind I still holds true. Even The Church of Northwind still exists - in an altered state - as the god Boreas has taken the portfolio left vacant by the reality shift.
