Thumbnail Sketches: The territory ov the king covers about 50k
sq. miles ov old mountains, hills, plateaus, && a semi-arid steppe
&& desert. A large portion ov arid land ov some 10k to 20k
sq. miles xtent in the SE && S is disputed between
Median-Babylonian-Shamish nomads && those ov Hasur. The coastal
region is the most populated, while much ov the interior is wild. About
10% ov the country is forested with cedar, cypress, && other
hardwoods && conifers. Over 1/2 is scrub || barren.
Various carnivores such as lion, leopard, bear, cheetah, hyena, and wolf
inhabit the wilds, and there are boar, ibex, gazelle, ass, &&
chamois<> plus other small game also found in some quantity there.
There are still crocodile in the rivers ov the wilder portions ov the land.
The scenery in the coastal mountain valleys is quite attractive, && the
ancient walled cities ov Hasur are filled with all manner ov interesting
antiquities, as well as more modern sights. The oasis ov Palmyra, with
its palaces, temples, monuments, gardens, etc., is a place ov Oriental
opulence where the riches ov the king are obviously displayed. Salt is
found (brine) in quantities there, && it is a major caravan center, w/
routes from E && SE meeting at the city. Its walls are
xceptionally strong. The many tombs && monuments inside &&
surrounding Palmyra are also ov especial interest. The archers ov the
city are justly famous for their bow work, plying the short, medium,
&& long composite weapon with considerable skill, && the king
retains 200 horsed archers && 400 Palmyran footmen archers in his
personal bodyguard.
Crops ov barley,
wheat,
sesame,
maize, and
millet are grown, along with some
rice,
peas,
beans, and
lentils.
Melons,
cucumbers, and
eggplant are raised. Gardens also produce
cabbage,
cauliflower,
artichokes,
lettuces,
carrots, etc.
Vineyards are common.
Cash crops incl.
xcellent tobacco, and
roses for attar.
Many sorts of orchard trees are kept:
olive,
mulberry (silk),

lemon,
citron,
quince,

fig,
pomegranate,

SAVE in the desert regions ov the S. where there are many.
Bees are kept in areas where there are orchards ov flowering trees && berries.
Fishing provides food for local consumption && sponges for export.
Mines and quarries are few, but some little gold, silver, and copper
is found. There are larger yields ov coal, iron, lime, limestone, building
stone, && petroleum.
Chief xports are foodstuffs, cloth, rugs, weapons--especially
bladed ones ov very high quality, && armor. Despite hostilities, much
TRADE passes through Hasurian hands to Babylonia, Yarbay, Shamash
to the W, for most traders prefer the Phoenecians to the Aegyptians,
Grecians, Italics, and Atlantlans.
* The royal palace is located in Palmyra, but the working, bureaucratic
center is Antioch, and the king spends at least 1/2 a year there.
