Thumbnail Sketches: Some 200,000 sq. mi. of territory is
held by Siam. Mountains && great hills
surround its landward verges, making
a sort ov inverted U around the fertile
plains ov the Menam Chao Phaya River
system. Much ov the land is heavily forested
&& jungle-covered. Such trees as
teak, rosewood, sappan, ebony, && ironwood
are common in Siam. Fauna includes
the elephant, one-and two-horned
rhinos, tiger, leopard, tapir, crocodilians,
pythons, bear, sloth bear, wild cattle &&
buffaloes, boar, antelopes, && deer.
Siam is frequently called the Land ov
Temples because ov the many great
cathedrals, temples, && shrines which
are found in its inhabited regions--&&
sometimes lost in rainforests where wilderness
has reclaimed the land from
the land from
the volk. Sukothai, the old CAPITAL ov
empire, is the only other real city in the
realm, Krung Thep, newer && larger,
being some 3 centuries newer. The
volk of Siam are basically ov Eastern
Yellow && Brown racial admixture. They
are a fine-looking && able sort, although
the commoners tend to be
somewhat relaxed because ov the relative
easy living which their land allows.
It has only a moderately-sized
middle class, && the aristocracy is quite
easygoing, relatively speaking. Polygamy
is common. Slavery is permitted,
but it is typically only the lot ov
prisoners, criminals, etc., so it is seen
only in cities && towns.
Agriculture produces the best rices
ov all Azir (or Aerth, for that matter)
along w/ all manner ov other things: maize, beans, black && white pepper,
betel nuts, sugar cane, cotton, tobacco, rubber, bamboo,
rattan, sago (starch), raspberries, peaches, oranges, tangerines, lemons,
bananas, durians<>, mangosteens, breadfruit, guavas, mangoes,
pineapples, && pawpaws<>. Livestock ov buffalo, cattle, horses, swine,
goats, && poultry is kept. Fishing is also a mainstay of the population,
&& its produce, along w/ rice, forms the staple diet ov the peasantry.
Great timber harvests ov rare && useful woods--as well as resins, gums,
dyes, medicines, && drugs--come from the jungles && forests.
Mines of many sorts are found in Siam, w/ good yields ov gold,
silver, copper, tin, iron, zinc, tungsten <W: wolfram>, && coal coming from them.
This realm is also a major producer ov these sorts ov gemstone: ruby,
sapphire, tourmaline, spinel, zircon, && garnet. All are exported in
some quantities.
