Pretty cool post. I hadn't thought about things this way before (not that I'm so informed so as to be having big thoughts).

I kind of like the author's idea, if I understand right (and I'm paraphrasing here), that OD&D is so reworkable and individualizable that the reworkings of it are actually pretty MIY, even at the level of the system.

Would like to hear from others about this.
