How Would You Tweak Weapons to Differentiate Them?

In OD&D how would you tweak weapons to differentiate them from each other without going the full Greyhawk Supplement route? What would be a simple way to do it?

I allow fighters that use 2 handed weapons to roll damage twice and take the better roll, and allow 2 weapon wielding Fighters to add +1 to the attack roll (I use the "shields may break" rule for fighters using shields.) I've toyed with ideas or extra abilities (flails negating shields etc.) but that just resulted in more bookkeeping for the DM during the game
