I guess this is a different question, but I am seriously inclined to drop cleric, at least as a PC class.

I guess this is a different question, but I am seriously inclined to drop cleric, at least as a PC class. hengest I don't think this is unreasonable at all. Several options come to mind. First, the cleric could be a variant magic-user by eliminating the class and keeping the spell list. Second, the cleric could be emulated by using some sort of kit-like addon to another class OR writing up a "cleric option" for each class taht would modify the base class. For example, a militant cleric would be part of the fighting-man class. Maybe the fighting man could give up one of the hit dice advancements at certain levels for access to the clerical spell list or something like that? A scholarly cleric would be part of the magic-user class. These are just quick ideas with no real testing or anything; just spit balling.

I am not dogmatic about this at all, but I really don't see the need for so many classes. Seems like a ref could easily make up whatever. Although I'm not so good at class design myself...I dunno. Just feels like overkill, as to me it seems easy to differentiate characters even within a class. They don't need to know they're FMs or MU's, do they? I agree with your suggestions, or I guess I like them rather than agree with them, The Semi-Retired Gamer. Sorry for the delay in replying.
