Spinning off my own post from here. This is not to find something super practical, simply to brainstorm a bit. People have different "camps" at rental facilities all the time. Including family things. What might be offered at such an event to appeal to entire families? Particularly things that don't have an electronic / screen component? - of course, Murkhillian-style gaming for everyone who can and wants to play (ages 5 and up?)
- fantasy-oriented age-appropriate activities for kids older than "baby" but too young to play. Fantasy creatures, coloring projects (thanks PD), working with clay, telling of stories and myths with attendant activities, brainstorming activities...
- instruction in painting minis or other creative "visible" activities that could be applied to gaming
- a mini-library of primary sources, especially for young people, to enjoy and read while not gaming (especially good for teenagers who absorb information quickly but are not likely to be exposed to some of this stuff: Coleridge, works on imagination and creativity, Tolkien, old fantasy like Howard Pyle)
- volunteer cooking of simple, nutritious meals
- someone who does vocal accompaniment well on guitar
Other thoughts and ideas?

To expand on storytelling - Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Tall Tales, Myths, Legends and for those that can do it stories that you make up on the spot. Also a lot of great poetry and short stories out there too!

This is a great topic! I'm going to sit on my thoughts for a bit to see what I can come up with.

All good ideas, there are lots of poems appropriate for young (and older) kids that, as far as I know, are barely present in popular culture now and are not represented at all in education. You could design a million engaging activities based on any one of them. Off the top of my head: Topics: stones and their colors, firemaking, appearances versus reality, ballad meter in English...easily adaptable to various ages. Also touches on such primal topics as stone, fire, gem, desire, obviously relevant to fantasy and gaming.

Teaching kids (and interested older people) folks songs and kids songs with someone playing a guitar or banjo or other instrument could be a lot of fun in a family setting.

Poetry used to be a major portion of the study of English if you go back to the early 1950s and before.

At least in the US, I don't know about the other anglo countries. And I would love to attend or teach that, I'm sure I would learn a lot either way. Of course, if it was based on my knowledge of geology, that part would be pretty basic, but I could come up with something.
