So has anyone here utilized this supplement at all? Borrowed bits and pieces from it?

Just borrowing ideas and inspiration.

I have borrowed from it, it is always an inspiration to read it. I especially like the way he has fleshed out the major bad guys.

I have used bits of it as well. In particular, the experience table that requires players to pick overall goals for their character ('fame', 'money', etc.), and all of their experience gains are modified based on whether the action accomplishes that goal.
By the time I picked it up I was already running a game and didn't want to rebuild everything from scratch with the FFC, so I only imported a few things like that. In a new game, I wouldn't be adverse to starting with just the FFC and meditating on that for a while, then adding in stuff from OD&D (or whatever else) as needed until it felt like a stable game.

I was early on (before FFC's publication) inspired to expand upon the design parameters noted in the Comeback Inn sequence that Dave ran us through in 1972. I have since expanded it considerably to other facets of the game and design avenues relating to these.

I wish I could find a copy of FFC that didn't cost as much as the ransom of King Jean II of France.

Though i am not allowed to say who, there are behind the scenes negotiations taking place with both JG and the Arneson estate, and have been ongoing for some time now.

Maybe his and Richard Sniders "Adventures in Fantasy" will be available someday too.

I wish I could find a copy of FFC that didn't cost as much as the ransom of King Jean II of France. There is a copy on eBay at $79.00, no bids and under 2 days left. You might give it a try.

It must be a buy-it-now if there are no bids. In several years it will double that current price.

Fat chance since the release of the Dragon Archive disk many years ago, which instantly devalued their prices.

Fat chance since the release of the Dragon Archive disk many years ago, which instantly devalued their prices. The sad part is that people come along and buy the very badly overpriced items and as a result more and more sellers are putting higher minimum prices on things. I like to see people get a fair price, but some of the sellers and uniformed buyers with money burning a hole in their pockets are making some items really hard to buy for most of us.

But that's how it goes. Some have money and no sense, and a mix of the two. It has been the way of the world since they invented currency and combined it with nit-wits. I surmise that it will even out in the long run after the few have spent themselves and the overpriced stuff is no longer moving.

I have used the FFC setting, I honestly have not used much if any of the rules content. Really, I mostly use the maps...

I use it all the time. Champions of ZED is loaded with rules drawn from the FFC, especially treasure and magic item stuff. My way of helping to keep alive some of Dave's ideas.

When I first started collecting AD&D books, I got the cores for about $10-$15 each plus shipping. Good luck finding that nowadays.

I think I got the 1E books for about $3 apiece in the mid-90s. I guess people were tossing them in favor of 2E at the time.

This is probably my favorite item in my collection. I have researched it extensively, picking apart every little sentence for ideas and possible interpretations. I like to use it as a supplement to other Blackmoor material like the DA modules. Alot of things were mentioned in the FFC that were never reprinted elsewhere. In some ways the book is a mess, but it is also a gold mine of ideas and Blackmoor lore. -Havard

I don't know if it's a "must have," due to its scarcity and expense. You could do well without it, but if you find a copy at a price you are willing to pay, grab it.
