What have you done, enjoyed, or would you like to do with lost worlds?
In a way, every Moria-like dungeon is a "lost world." It was a whole place full of life (maybe) and now it's a horrible, decaying, possibly evil pit.
But I mean something more like Doyle's Lost World. An inset and fairly isolated world with relics—dinosaurs, pre-human intelligent races (a kind of Rivendell, maybe), or anything else of the kind. Not so much the contents of the lost world that are important, more than the idea is they were once everywhere and now remain only here.

I think that's a beautiful idea: you're travelling in space, but in effect, you're also travelling in time. Pretty strange.

Not explicitly as a "lost world" but my many of my worlds tend to have low populations with an after the apocalypse vibe. I may just switch the pbp to something like that when I restart it.

above post interupted by family crisis LOL, seriously thou) It is from the year 1900 or so. Ok I lill admit it is very dated, but it is ( I believe to be the modern birth of the genra) Keeping in mind when it was written, It is a rousing adventure tail. Way better than any of the many movies it has spawned.Top 20 or so for me in books
teasers Mysantia has a lost world in it that I added in 1980ish
You guys know the Tarzan connection?

Edger Rice Burroughs wrote 20 ish books of Tarzan. The first few are more or less the char you see on the silver Screen. In book2(?)The lost city of Opar was found by him. They were the descendant of Atlantis. This is where he made his fortune Not sure when the lost worlds took off here. It has been said that you could walk on lost citys Tarzan Had found w/o touching Africa.
Often they were rivals you could recognize, Rome and Carthage etc. so they were coning at 2 ish per book
To the best of my knowlage they are not worth reading.

I almost never owned or used moduals, never needed to. One of a handful of ones I own was The Isle of Dread by Tom Molvey(more on him in another thread) I met him at a con and ded to Mysantia very early, a coule of years afe The Isle had ben published.once again gushed over somebody. He was very flattered. It is very loosly based on King Kong movie and Skull Island. When I put it in Mysantia , I also called it Skull Island. I used almost every single word in it and then added a ton.It is the me of my version of kong, he is called the Puja which in the native languge means"Evil" He was a Kong sized mandril and he was one of a very small bunch of stuff my PCs were afraid of.My son is running Mysantia his way. He used SkullIsland all the time.He liked my velocerraptors. They were horrible, dinos and ice ge mamels abound. I could go on and on. Ad

There are 24 books that were written solely by ERB. I love them and think they are awesome. His world building is incredible. Especially when you throw in Pellucidar, Barsoom and Amtor. Plus the other worlds he built besides these.

Very striking imagination, it has been twenty years and I still think about some of those scenes.

But I loved the lost civilizations and lost races that he came up with.

I almost swithed my major to Philosophy senior year but....18 credit my very last simester or 9 in history.) I took Philosophy (Logic) 301 in college and it has forever eliminated any respect I might once have had for Philosophers. Too much of the stuff they were teaching was just out and out lies with a really twisted illogic. I argued with the professor all quarter long in class. I got an A on the final and he asked me how that was possible. I told him that it was his test and since the class had established that Philosophy and "Logic" were not concerned with Truth, I just gave him the answers that he wanted.

There was some kind of generational gap or something but I could not get hooked into the whole thing. The professor got very frustrated with us and it was not a good scene. I think I should have done better but I don't know how. I think if I had taken Logic, I would have had a similar experience.

I am trying to remember the name of the movie I saw reciently, that made me switch favs in lost worlds. It is in the exact same class as I put "The Undead" which is to say That the concept is amazing, needs to be made again.
It is raw . Has lots of SFX that need to be seen to be believed Oh and did I mention: dino's
I saw it on Svengoiie a few months ago, not the one w the meteor, that was so bad(Off on a Comet")
note to self: The Mask
