We hear a lot about how player ability is more important than character ability. Do you guys try to think of any specific challenges to player ability, or simply let it happen as they players try to deal with whatever you throw at them?

We hear a lot about how player ability is more important than character ability. Do you guys try to think of any specific challenges to player ability, or simply let it happen as they players try to deal with whatever you throw at them? I'm wondering now whether this question even makes sense. Does there really even need to be player ability? What does that mean? Ability to have fun? Sure, there are important parts to being a player: creativity, pro-social attitude, and so on. But they seem kind of hard to measure or challenge explicitly...

Everything just riffs off the players decisions as they react to the world and the world reacts to them.

Player ability is the ability to make logical, rational decisions and also to be creative and think out of the box. I provide a lot of things that the players will hopefully think about and that leads to ideas which I can react to.
