I'm El Borak the New Admin.(I reset the post count and karma when I assumed the office)

My first post as Admin was Jul 13, 2018 at 09:43
So if you want to know which Admin made a post, that is the dividing line.
This lycanthrope article in the new issue is pretty cool. I don't see (have never seen) a representation of a lycanthrope as stronger while in animal or hybrid form, but weaker while in human form. I guess if you play it more as a disease, it might make some sense. Maybe a lycanthrope PC or NPC could, a little more simply for regular play
-act at -2 HD during new moon -act at regular HD from waxing crescent to waxing gibbous -act at +2 HD during full moon, plus a chance of transformation. Bites and blood infectious (in any form?) during this period. -act at regular HD from waning gibbous through waning crescent
When the moon is full, a base chance of 5% of transformation modified in this way: -exposed to moonlight, +5% -away from human habitation (town, village), +5% -hungry / stressed / sick, +5% -in combat, +5% -can hear/see animals of their type, +5% -each past hybrid form, +5% -each past full transformation, +10% -kin threatened, +5%
-WIS of 13 or higher, -5% -sated (moderately well-off, feast days, good harvest), -5%
Roll once during the full moon (in combat, if it occurs). Rolling a transformation means at least hybrid form and requires a re-roll -- a second such roll means a full transformation.
Hybrid form is an incomplete transformation with no mechanical representation, but could scare family or horrify clerics.
A mechanical boost or drag that's easy to calculate (instead of ability mods all over the place), and for RP it has a cycle that comrades could notice and comment on ("You were tearing it up a couple weeks ago...are you feeling okay?")
I've seen heavy emphasis in popular culture -- reduced recently? -- on lycanthropes that think of themselves as monsters or diseased. Supernatural had an episode where a young woman requested to be killed by the protagonists -- this never sat well with me. An old, old issue of Swamp Thing had a young man whose parents sought to cure him of lycanthropy by trapping strangers and giving him their blood.
This could have someone symptom-free for years after infection (13 WIS, well-to-do, never leaves town at night). But fighting wolves by moonlight in the woods when rations are low could change all that. Then the odds start increasing.
PC lycanthropes could be easily justified. The main difference is that their friends may have to kill them.
Of course, this has probably been done before, and better.
